We braved a trip to the grocery store... for ice cream.

We can get some 'warm' breaks in winter here in February. Usually warm enough...50-60 degree temperatures that fool the hens into wanting to go broody. Usually we try to get out during these brief reprieves and drop dead trees and trees we want to thin. If you drop live trees during winter, the sap is down and once you chain and split them it takes half the time to cure them out. We already have about a chained cord on the ground behind the barn waiting to be split. We need to get it covered before it gets rained or snowed on, but fortunately it isn't showing any precip for us up till the the 23rd.

Not only do those wet three inchers hiss, @bruceha2000, they also drip sap from the ends which is fun to watch.

Penny, I almost forgot. If you don't see your kitty for a day or two, set a have a heart trap for it using a can of tuna. We have a crazy calico that used to escape the house on occasion. The crazy cat would hide, too terrified to come out but we would see her on the game camera at night. She was so terrified of that I don't even think she would hunt for herself. We finally set the trap for her and she got caught the first night. She was out long enough that she got good and hungry. When we got her in she had lost about 3 pounds. Pretty dramatic loss for a 5-6 pound cat in just a few days.

Y'all who have the snow. Stay safe. Don't try to shovel heavy snow all at once. Your heart will thank you for it.

I told hubby we have too much deck. With the other stuff i did today i couldn't shovel all of it at once.

Thanks ya'll. I am not sure if we will be able to straighten the poles out or not yet. Still to slushy to go out there.
If not I will try to get some heavier metal poles to use.

Sorry about the carport Chicka. Hope you can repair it. Doesn't look like the cover/top is torn which is a huge plus.

The tree I'm working on was a blow down several years ago. quite dead, no sap. cuts and splits real well. I just go knock some out when I need it or get low. Spent the last 3-4 hours out there and got maybe a 1/4 cord cut and split. That will last me several days. I'll go back out and get more tomorrow to build the stack a bit.

When I came in the house, it felt like an oven in here. damped the stove all the way down. 56° outside right now. a little windy but feels so nice. Not a cloud in the sky. So I'm sitting here in the back bedroom with the window open to cool it down some in here.

Think I'll go get some lunch then relax a bit.
