The Old Folks Home

@superchemicalgirl
Losing power is always on my mind when I see the kind of temps we, and you, will be getting next week-single digit temps at night and not much warm-up during the day. Dealing with outside chores and travel are bad enough during the extreme cold, losing power is downright dangerous.
Extra prayers will be said for the power to stay on.
I know you will be posting pictures of the pup as soon as possible on Tuesday...right?! :caf

We are looking at below zero highs for tomorrow and beyond and they are saying windchills in the -20 to -30 F on Christmas Day!!! So glad we are staying home in our quiet, cozy little home with our fireplace and two back up generators on the ready. I feel so sorry for the those having large gatherings and/or young families. I think back in horror imagining an entire weekend being trapped inside with a house full over excited children while playing host to the inlaw/outlaws!!!:eek::eek:

Happy day before Christmas Eve everyone!

Stay warm!

Temp here this morning is a toasty 21, Highs next week in the 20 and lows in the single digits. The only bright spot is 2-5 inches of snow overnight tonight so hopefully we will have enough to have a white Christmas.:celebrate

So now if things go to plan, the snow will melt the day after Christmas and the next day will be the first day of spring with highs in the 70's, lows in the 50's and abundant sunshine.

That is my idea of a perfect winter.

Mornin' folks. Sending warm thoughts to all you "northerners" who are experiencing bitter cold. Been there, done that, had the T-shirt. Sending out calming thoughts to all you folks with full houses and those traveling.

Cleaned all the cold dead ash from the wood stove yesterday before I fired it back up. Woke @2am and threw in a few more chunks but when I got up this morning there was very little left in the way of coals. No ash bed to keep them nice and warm... :( With all the rain we just had, the outside of all the wood is wet. Took a while to get the thing going again. It's about 60 in here right now (maybe lower back here in the back BR where the computer is) 37°f outside right now but at last the wind has died down. still 100% cloud cover but no rain.

I do hope the power stays on up north and that your firewood stays dry!

That's why we store our wood in our barn. It is under cover, stays warm, we are out of the elements when we fill the wood wagon and the barn gets hot enough in the summer that it speeds drying.

The birds are not thrilled with this weather at all. I gave them a bit extra scratch sprinkled around inside so they will be motivated to move in and scratch about.

Maybe somebody will sprinkle Hershey's kisses on the floor in the house and I can stay inside for the rest of the day 'cleaning' them up?:plbb

Yeah , I need awards to motivate me to clean. Good plan! This place has way too many hairball dust bunnies!

ours is in one of the garages morning everyone getting coffee now we are going through allot of wood just now cold as a well diggers you know what

We have a large wagon that we bought at Orschelns. They call it a garden wagon or chore wagon, something like that. Up till yesterday we were using a wagon load of wood every two days. DH commented this morning that it looked like today was the day we would be booting up to two loads.

Current temp is 27 but at least it is sunny.

We try to have 8-9 cords of wood on hand by the end of June so it is cured by the first of October. This year we have about 9 cords plus almost a cord outside the barn to be split for next year .
