I've been thinking about quail. Would like to clean my big coop out and use it for a couple of milk goats but not sure if I can handle it, maybe will, not sure. Downsizing chickens anyway, just going to use small coop and tractors for them. Big coop would make a great quail coop, easy to install a wire floor if I wanted also.If my incubator still works i am going to join the easter HAL! Hoping to find quail eggs by then.
Those are one of the few types of shipped eggs i got good hatching results on.quail eggs ship way better than chickens eggs... so the risk isn't so bad... go for it.
I wish I was a puppy, not a care in the worldno but awful cute puppy
My big bad German Shepherd came home with three wild baby rabbits in her mouth one day. All were alive and only one had a scratched ear! I think she figures i am in charge of all creatures.I got 9 eggs today. Some new first time layers as I am getting some really blood smeared small eggs, poor babies. What is amazing is that my buff o and Welly girls are laying 6 a day for me and those girls are three years old now. Bless em. Seriously, I didn't expect any of them to still be around this year and they are going on strong, even my girls with OMV are laying for me.
No better teacher for a young pup than an 'older' dog around 5 or 6. When Spot and Buck were 4 months old, Dingo, our old boy with DM who was then 5 years old, found a nest of older wild rabbits, grabbed one, mortally wounded it and laid it between the two 4 month olds and then killed one for himself. The two 4 month old dogs watched him kill his rabbit, looked at the wounded rabbit and that fast, the light bulb clicked on. Those two have been consummate hunters their whole lives. I've had dogs be excellent 'mothers' to young pups as old as 7 or 8 but after that, it's like go away kid, leave me alone.
