The Old Folks Home

My DW was complaining about how cold it was yesterday...The high was 56. Sometimes we do not know how good we have it.
All what your used to. 50s is hot sweaty weather in the spring but cold in the fall.
I used to be 'cold hardy' not much anymore. I'm always cold it seems.
Job I've been on, whey plant, it's 95 at floor level sitting at my desk most of the yr. If I have to go up the decks it's 106 up top, with big exhaust fans sucking the heat out. Yrs ago whey plant had a group leader. They were going to put a enclosed office with air-conditioning , old little bitty guy (Vietnam war vet first over in '65, little guy but I wouldn't mess with him) that was group leader said they didn't need it. He walked around outside on hot summer days in a jacket, why would they take his advice?
It was brutal at first 8hrs day 95+, now when it drops below 75 outside I have a jacket on Lol. All computer run and usually just have to monitor it all, but we really need to be 'in-tune' keeping a ear on it, eye on it, can go from smooth sailing to bad bad crap real quick, send straight 40% whey to town sewer treatment plant (they don't like that), or plug the system up solid, whey doesn't flow through pipes when it gets condensed to solid. Wouldn't be a good thing to be in a enclosed office, quicker getting things under control when it goes bad the better, guess that crazy old fart was right.

We do seem to get colder when we age.

I do not look forward to the heat of summer though. We are moving into the nice time of the year here

I would be checking the shipping information and going out and buying them food and giving them a bowl of water if nothing else.
DW has watered chicks when the person couldn't get to the PO until ~3 PM after getting off work. DW doesn't really enjoy listening to chicks peep for 7 hours.

The fellow that gave the package was not the one responsible... and he is not likely to know how this happened nor what to do to fix it.
Right. End of the line, "mail" comes when it comes.

@NotAFarmYeah, the person you were face-to-face with is probably a low-level local employee, (basically a flunky); dumping on them does nothing more than wreck their day, too (as if the sight of all those dead birds hadn't already). The real issue is further afield.

It's been a few years since I had birds or eggs shipped to me, but we have a person at our local PO who has called me the moment the boxes came in. Worth her weight in gold, in my mind; I'm sorry for all who don't have people like that to work with.
Yep, "just" a clerk, can't get the "mail" to the PO any faster than the truck carrying it gets to the PO. But he could have been a LOT more sympathetic to the situation. I know DW isn't feeling too good when she gets a box with dead chicks even though she had no hand in it.

Were there any "weather events" between seller and destination Tues - Fri? No one can be responsible for that. Live animals shouldn't be shipped if there is any expectation of weather related travel delays. Especially with juveniles, hold them to the next Monday.

Tell her I saw -4°F around 11:30 last night taking gas to DD1 who ran out 10-12 miles shy of home returning from Boston. Maybe that will make her feel warmer at 56°F. :D

Hope everyone is having a blessed day :love

70 degrees Penny? For me more like 76 in the house and I am comfortable.

Bruce there are good people working in the PO that nobody ever hears about. Your wife is one of them. Of course she gives baby chicks water. She knows chickens and knows if babies are screaming there is a reason and is a person with compassion.

The world needs more people like that.

Someone finally took the time to punch through the snowmobile trails (and punched through where I walk in and out) between when I took the dog for a stroll along our road this morning and when she decided I was done quilting early this afternoon.

We walked all the way up the trail to the left, crossed the road and continued along until we hit another road, then turned around. Probably could have gone further but it was hard work slogging through some of the areas, where the snow was still really deep and I'd punch through. Went 3.67 miles in all this afternoon, plus another 0.75 this morning along our road. The dog is snoring.

I'm warming my feet up (chose poorly sock-wise for snow in my boots) then going to go choose my next sewing project. Finished a crappy baby panel for someone this weekend. CrazyNeighborLady is pregnant with her 5th child, this one is finally a girl, and she made sure to tell me that plus how far along she was. I didn't make her other kids a quilt, but she did get to choose one I made last summer. I'm just not feeling another baby quilt.
