The Old Folks Home

Yup. Like I said, normally we do all of it ourselves from scratch. It's a fantastic family type project. From shopping for all the stuff, which it gets really fun shopping for all the detailing, to getting it cut out, painted, detailed, and lastly the wheels put on. I don't know why they didn't announce it this year until the last minute, but it sure messed things up.
Your are seeing one of the things that happens in a volunteer organization!

Someone likely took over from someone else and did not get the deadlines correct.

Still in gi hell here. Dog is snoring away in the bathroom which adds a new level of fun to getting there before you become incontinent
She is very helpful!

Those stomach bugs are not fun. I vomited so hard once that I burst blood vessels in my right eye. It was kind of scary but once I realized it was not dangerous, pretty cool to see and boy the reactions from people that saw it!

Seems the whole world had gone commercial.

DH did pinewood derby when he was a kid. Father gave him the money to buy the kit and told him to have at it. He said it wasn't the prettiest car there but he had satisfaction of building the car himself from start to finish. He said he started with a block of wood, carved it with a pocket knife and sanded it and turned it into a car.

He said that when he got there he realized he wasn't racing against the other kids his age but was racing against their fathers who had built the cars for them. And this was over 55 years ago. Now it seems as though the kids can buy the cars ready made on Ebay. No science, no math, no physics, no time with their parents, just punch the 'Buy Now' button and wait for the car to arrive in your mailbox, 'Ready To Race!' ( I know cause I have the page open on Ebay and that is what it says ) Makes me wanna cry :hit

Where is the challenge for kids today?? Everything is pre made in a kit in a kit for them. I really worry about them. Not saying I think they should go through brutal hard times but there is absolutely nothing wrong in knowing how to do things for yourself if the need arises. There is a lot of problem solving involved in building a pinewood car from scratch, and that is what the whole thing is about.

Really makes me worry about how the young people of today are going to arise to challenges should they face them when they are our age.

Like @getaclue said. Them not giving the kids and their families a lot of warning isn't right. But I bet real money that if somebody gave my husband a block of wood and if we had a kid, he and that child could turn out a pretty snappy pinewood derby car in the course of a weekend.

Norovirus is not fun. Human and canine with GI problems even less.:hugs

B.R.A.T. diet for both of you! Although our Australian cattle dog loves bananas I can't guarantee that Ripley will gobble them down. As for Tea, ginger tea will settle your stomach.

I had that galloping crud back in Feb. I swore off food for 4 days and concentrated on fluids. I was lucky that I didn't have the vomiting part of it but I was pretty miserable with the other half and decided that I needed to concentrate on staying hydrated.

It's absolutely miserable here today. Cold, only 32 degrees and it's been switching from rain to snow to sleet to freezing rain, repeat all day. I know spring is out there somewhere, hiding at the moment. Looked ahead at the forecast and this looks like the end of the sprinter weather. The rest of the month is looking more normal. I can hardly wait.

Yeah, been there, done that. Not fun! Sorry you are suffering!

The gi stuff hit me badly in my early 20's - thought I would never stop. My mother got me something called Paragoric - probably wrong word and THAT did the job. I have no idea what it was but now thinking it was probably an opiate. I didn't get hooked but, boy was it nice not to be running for the porcelain bowl all day & night.

All I know is it was first and last time I ate at a Chinese restaurant.

Paragoric with Bismuth. :sick

God I hate that stuff. I used to have a lot of stomach problems when I was little. I was talking to DH about it and told him my symptoms and he told me that spastic stomach in children with auras is now recognized as migraines. I would have terrible pain that would end with me throwing up. Mom finally took me to the docs and they gave me this nasty green stuff. Tasted horrible and I can still smell it to this day. I didn't know what made me retch faster, the stomach pain or the medicine!:lau
