Had the same problem with striped ground squirrels. Tried the bucket of death, tried traps, tried poison peanuts. The only thing that worked was a scoped .22 rifle. A scoped .17 really makes them go splat never to be seen again.I'm on the warpath, hunting. Chipmunks have dug up and stole half of the Indian corn and giant sunflowers I planted

I don't know how many I took out one summer when they overflowed the cemetery next door to us in IL and invaded the yard. When I cleaned out the yard I went to work on the cemetery. People probably thought I was a nut case hiding behind tombstones waiting for them to pop their heads out of their burrows.
DH could always tell what kind of day I had enjoyed at our office when I got home and without a word went inside and grabbed the .22, came outside and headed for the fir trees that lined our property. He'd just chuckle and tell me to have fun. Have to admit getting rid of those little garden destroyers was a great stress reliever for me. Kinda tough on the ground squirrels............
