The Old Folks Home

Of all the bizarre coincidences! I was at the grocery store today and came across (actually he saw me) the EMT that took me to the ER when I had the kidney stone incident at work all those years ago. He used to live up this way when I lived farther south. Now he lives in the Northeast Kingdom. Turns out he was also laid off in 2013 with the big "rightsizing".

Thanks bruce. Yeah, I called the health department when I was diagnosed with shingles and they are the ones that told me about the silent Chicken Pox. Dad had HUGE blisters from his bout of shingles after mom passed so yes I was definitely exposed to the fluid. Just have no memory of being sick with them as a child although I almost died from the 'hard' measles as they used to call them and could have had them piggy back in on that infection. I'd called the health dept to find out how soon I could go back to work with my shingle outbreak......on my butt of all places and YES very unpleasant especially when the neuritis set in. Talk about a pain in the.........

Yeah, last update we got about our friend was that the pneumonia wasn't backing down and he was in and out of consciousness. Doctors couldn't figure it out. He was just too severely injured in his fall and the ongoing health problems he had proved to be too much for the injury he sustained.

I'm thinking his nephew will step up to the plate. So sad. They lost a SIL, a brother and now our friend in about a year and a half.

measles resets the immune system

Unfortunately, measles began showing its ugly, red face again in the late 2000s and 2010s. While many of these outbreaks occurred because of infected foreigners coming to the U.S., one large outbreak in 2014 that sickened 383 people was largely due to an unvaccinated group of Amish [source: CDC]. Another outbreak started at Disneyland in California in 2015, possibly due to someone contracting measles overseas; 147 people were sickened [source: NBC News].

The return of measles is concerning enough. What's worse is that in 2015, a study showed people who came down with measles were at risk for getting a raft of other diseases. Their immune systems had developed "amnesia."
