I have not had the flu since i started getting vaccines, likely 15 years now. While it may not prevent every strain of flu, i do feel that it is helpful.

There was a report about last years flu season. Children that got the flu shot and then got the flu were less likely to die from the flu. It helps even when it does not completely prevent it

I don’t disagree that the vaccine is helpful. I’m sure it is. But I can also understand a parent’s concern about long term effects when there is so much hoopla about that, too.

I honestly don’t envy young parents. One day while visiting with a DIL and listening to her theories as to why she does or doesn’t do certain things as a parent, I said, “It’s a wonder my kids made it to adulthood.” She told me, “Well, we have so much more knowledge nowadays.” Um, no. You have more information available to you, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. How does one know what to believe? A person can find studies to support any side of any argument they want to present. Sometimes I think technology is not always our friend.

Most of it is mis information. I do not really know what the motivation for it is but it is likely related to money.

The stories about the dangers are usually coincidence. A vaccine is given and then the person gets sick soon after. The sickness was not caused by the shot but is seen that way.

That happens when millions of a vaccine are given.

IMHO, what many folks refer to as "the flu" is in fact NOT the flu at all. They are sick... but that does NOT mean it's the flu. As a result, I believe that the published statistics of how many of the populace have the flu at any given time are actually inflated numbers including those who are sick, but not with the flu.

In the "studies"/reports that I have read, the flu shot is a pure guess on the manufactures part, with direction/assistance from CDC (& others), as to what the "most likely strain(s)" will be for the coming flu season. The shot typically protects against up to 3-5 different strains. Hindsight being 20/20 (or better), If I recall what I read correctly, the actual strain has differed from the projected strain every year. Though the shot "may" provide some benefit, that is a matter of pure conjecture.

Perhaps SCG can Provide more accurate/actual data on what I've said, from a Medical profession's side/perspective. There were years when I got the flu shot, only to get sick. and most years when I refused the shot and did NOT get sick (at all or with the flu).

I’m an EMT. When I worked for a service that offered free flu shots, I got the shots, never got sick. The two years I was a pharmacy tech, I never got the shot, never got influenza despite the many people coming in and spewing flu germs all over us, the counters and everything in the store. My kids were never vaccinated for it - two (out of three) of them had Influenza A once through all their years of school. I had type B two years ago (no shot that year). No shot last year either, and no flu. I kind of feel it’s hit and miss. I don’t have any evidence to back that up. To me, it all boils down to one’s personal opinion on the matter. I don’t have strong feelings about it one way or another.

I have had pneumonia 5 times now my doc has seen me through 3 of them we have a pretty long history my immune is not too peachy either but we agree get the vaccine lat's see if my system will fight I am not a weakling not overly sickly but had the vaccines time to say goodnight now hope all wake rested
