The Old Folks Home

We try to eat nonmeat for the majority of the week, Forks Over Knives. It really helps with the inflammation, digestion and weight control. Still, it's a daunting thought of how much kale I'll need to eat to get down to my desired weight....
When I try to do a "non meat" period, one of two things is the case or happens. I'm either working diligently on some project outdoors and don't eat at all, or alternatively, I eat lots of junk food carbs loaded with salt/sugar/grease/fat/taste... because they're quick/easy/filling/tasty. Vegetables are just so bland. Haven't had one in a while so took a T bone out to thaw last night for today at some point.

The biggest help for me dropping weight (got on the scales two days ago and weighed in at 124 in AM. Down another pound.) is managing portion size. Yep, got out the measuring cup and scales out. I don't weigh things like veggies but potatoes, meat, pasta, etc all gets measured and weighed. Once I started doing that I realized how much I was really eating.

Yeah, losing parents is tough. I loved them both dearly but mom had a lot of 'issues' mainly dealing with the fact that she was physically abused by her father in every way possible if you get my drift and other members of the family who beat her and my half aunt. As a result she was paranoid and controlling. There were a lot of issues that culminated with her developing violent dementia when she was in her 70s. Yeah....it was about as bad as it can get. When they put her on anti-psychotics I got the mother back that I knew when I was 6 years old. I thanked and hugged the psych that took care of her when mom passed for giving me two good years with my mom.

Dad was pretty complacent....had to be....lol but due to mom's problems I have to regretfully admit that I miss dad much more to this day. If mom was like she was when she was medicated, it would be great to have them both back and yes to this day I still miss them both so I understand how JD feels. Deepest condolences.

Actually.... I am pretty high up... about 1,300 feet above sea level.

Even in most scary apocalyptic scenarios, I will be just fine. :old

When I tell the doctor that I'm happy with a pain index of 2, they always give me an 'are you nutz' look.
Interesting. Some years back my primary made the same comment as what someone posted: At some point it isn't about totally removing pain but managing it. Seems like a "2" level would be fairly decent management.

I'm getting back to good health the natural way. After my mom's passing I kinda just let myself go. My blood pressure got up to 178 over 97. It's now 143 over 78. I'm taking a lot of supplements.
I've got to lose at least 65 pounds...but I'm aiming for an 81 pound loss.....and no more pork...ever.:hit
As already asked, "why no pork??"
Yep, losing your Mom was a HUGE hit. Brain shuts down, desire to do much of anything shuts down. Easy to eat poorly, whatever is easy, and be a slug, do the minimum necessary.

Seems you are coming out of the abyss. You will be fine, you will lose that weight.

I always wanted a cat named Mandoo ... but BF thinks it's stupid.
Is that like ZooDoo only from a man?? I don't think I'd want to be thinking of that when I looked at my cat!

Yeah, 2 is heaven when you have been working on a pain index that is somewhere in the bracket of 7-9. I had my Gallbladder out in 86 along with my appendix. Pain afterwards was monumental as they did an 9 inch incision. That is what I judge my pain index from. That was my perfect 10. I've had some 10s when my back gives out on me. But my pain index was a 7-8 average for so long that yes a 2 is bliss for me. Doctor I think wants it to be a 0 but hey, chronic pain is what it is.

Well, for the first time since August we've had a dry Saturday....as a matter of fact we may have a dry weekend!

Sounds like you are doing much better!

Most pork is almost as good as chicken.
Bacon not so much though

Well the cat's name is now "Mr Joel" - much worse than Mandoo.

Anyone on here have true banty eggs (fertilized) that I could buy and could be shipped in the next few weeks for me to hatch? A friends daughter is obsessed with the little eggs. I have one dwarf hen that is incredibly broody and only lays on occasion, and when she stops laying the daughter is sad. One of my silkie pullets just started laying and the girl was so happy to have 5 little eggs tucked in an egg carton this week... I really need to add a few more banties to my flock.
If you get them
