The Old Folks Home

Yes you are! ;) But you will enjoy the pups.

OK, probably a  question:
What are you going to do about the next litter they have? Seems like they are an unintentional puppy mill, their dogs aren't going to get neutered.
Of course that. At the moment the pups are blissfully asleep in the utility room. We tossed together a puppy yard today so they can spend the daytime outside and be ran in and out from the utility room when in so we can get them on a half hour schedule.

We worry about the puppy mill prospect. Lots of that around here. But we have the suspicion they didn't breed these pups No ACDs around the place German Shepard Dogs, small terriers Rat Terriers I think and whatever they are breeding them with to get mixes. They may have horse traded for the litter and discovered that they couldn't sell them around here because the area is pretty well saturated with ACDs. Lots of cattle around us with big herds so there has to be a demand for dogs that can work cattle.

I told DH that they had us pegged now and expect me to ride a horse home some day. He didn't laugh. The reality is I probably would if it meant saving the animals life.

They all have names now. The little girl is Sidney, then there is Bently (Ben), Varna (named for our speed bike, Varn for short, Ox, he's the biggest and Diesel, the smallest and a little heathen who ripped both of our shirts thinking they were convenient pull toys.

Getting them to answer to their names will be as big of a challenge as house breaking, LOL.

Actually two weren't all that hard to handle when it came to housebreaking. We figured that having the ability to move them in and out easily would help with a larger number. Funny watching them learn to climb stairs.

They had a good night. Slept til 5:30 so we got to sleep. Could have used some more shut eye but hey, when you have babies in the house two legged or four legged, sleep is a luxury.

micro, just WOW! You did a nice thing by taking all of them. Put the word out through your church group, or any other social group you are involved with, your doctors, nurses, the vet, the pet store, the feed store, etc. Be picky about who you give them to, but let anyone interested play with all of them, and watch the interaction. Usually it's the dog that picks the person. Yes, that many can be a handful in some ways, and easier in others.

Just got home from the vet. All are healthy, no heavy worm loads. Heaviest is 17 pounds, lightest 12.1. Wormed and first shots done and recorded. No market for cattle dogs in our area. Pretty saturated with them. We told them no problems. We have decided to keep them all. They have already bonded with us and are doing great. Their joy whenever we enter the utility room is contagious and their little personalities are coming out. The little female Sid is a doll. Very sweet and laid back. Ben is a clown as is Ox. Diesel is a little trouble maker and loves to play rough and Varn is natured a lot like his sister.

We are so glad we took them in and the vet agreed that the next step for them would have been a bullet in the head and a toss in a ravine.

Sometimes I really hate the Amish. We had a patient who was into rescue and she was the first that told us about the Amish puppy mills and how inhumane they were. I read about them in a documentary book that I bought about the Amish. They will take all their dogs out and shoot them if they get wind that the inspectors are coming through and they may face fines.

I respect their devotion and sense of community but when it comes to animals, they have no compassion at all. And you cannot convince them that pets are not livestock.

I told DH that if I saw one more black horse stand saddled and bridled in the full sun when the temp was in the 90s I just might be riding a horse home!

You are having too much fun with them!
