The Old Folks Home

DH and I look out on our deck at my container garden and are amazed by how well it is doing compared to our regular in the ground garden which is suffering badly from the wet weather. The pots can drain, the garden can't. I just told him that I have this fear that once the rain ends, the heat and dry will set in. That is the usual pattern. I was looking ahead at the forcast and they are calling for high 80 degree temps and no rain by the end of next week.

@ronott1. You will be going into fire season soon where you are won't you?
It is fire season now. We had a 20,000 acre fire a couple of weeks ago and a couple of grass fires in Winters, a town in our County, this week.

We were under a red flag fire warning yesterday

The chickens are switched around, and I tried out my new stapler. I LOVE it! I would never have bought one for myself. I would have been very skeptical as to whether it would actually work that good. Especially considering the price. I must say, it's worth every penny, and then some. Even Dd #1 was totally impressed.

Since I was out there anyway, I got the ladder, and all the rest of the stuff I needed, hauled it all out to the coop, and began setting up the mister system in the coops. I'm 3/4 of the way done, but I got too hot, so I came in for a break. If I feel up to it after bit, I'll go back out and finish. If not, I'll finish it up tomorrow.

Right now I'm refueling. Fried jumbo shrimp, and scalloped potatoes. I'll grab some salad when I get done with this, or save it for when I get hungry later.

Cleaned the laundry room here it desperately needed it Raudy our 12 or 13 year old sheltie/corgi cross has a skin issue metronidazole is the only thing that helps take him off it he goes bald but not mange of either variety oatmeal or tar baths do not help either
just got him back on it

I don't really want to do aquapontics. I'm just not sold on it. Raised beds, however, are a great option.
for me they are the only way.... Cant kneel or dig.... so raise up the beds and plant... my green house room is perfect.... tomatoes will thrive. Lots of sun but indirectly because it gets 110 degrees in there on occasion.

Mom Grew tomatoes in vegas along the fence no stakes no support... But the shade from the fence gave relief to the heat.... We had beef steaks the size of a sandwich... ALL YEAR LONG.... no die back.... They just kept growing.

Nice that the stapler works! I have a powered one but getting the power cord out to where I need to use it is a chore.

I am re hydrating between cleaning the quail pens and moving on to the coop. I will also put straw out in the run for the hens. I only have two out there currently so they do not make much of a mess

It is close to 100f here currently

It's 95 out with 71% humidity. Even hydrating with cold water, and keeping a hand towel soaked in cool water on my neck, it still gets to me eventually. I got 4 coops done though. Only 2 more to go. Not too shabby all in all, for an old lady.
I finished for today now too!

I need to clean up and get dinner going. I will have to do the Sunday work later though. Tomorrow is garbage pickup day and I need to get things set for the work week.

The sun comes up very early here and it is hard to sleep in. I was up at 6am this morning

Luckily we're on the other end of the solstice now and things will be reasonable soon.

Sunrise tomorrow is at 0454... it is light by 0400 here for me to do chores/let everyone out without a flashlight.

Sunset is at 2027 tonight, full darkness by about 2100.

Makes for a really long day.

Here's what I did today:
This is what we started with. A limb fell last fall and damaged 4 stones in the back of this small cemetery. Someone put the back left on backwards, so we flipped that around. The front left and front right we fixed - just have to infill the front right break tomorrow (without me). We didn't get to the back right with the bent pins.

The front left got dug out, the base of course had concrete in it (that's my lot in life) so I got to chisel that out and then we replanted the base and mortared the stone back in. It has to have plastic bags over it for about a week to increase the cure time, making the mortar stronger.

Then I got this really bright idea that James would be an easy dig out and straighten.
Surprise: he wasn't. He was broke off, and the bottom missing. I found it about a foot back. Someone had previously glued it so I got the pleasure of removing that, as well. Then we epoxied it back together. It has to cure 24 hours then it can get put into the ground. Since the base is below grade it doesn't need infill.

Then I came home, walked Ripley (only a mile) and we installed the air conditioner since it got to an inhumane 86F today. Now I'm waiting for the biddies to go to bed (probably another half hour) then I'm going to soak my sore body in the tub and then go to bed.
