The Old Folks Home

DD, for your birthday, the BTfH got a pardon.
And if (who am I kidding ... when) she goes nuts again, you can blame @drumstick diva :D

Still trying to Battle over how to make asparagus tonight on the grill or in the oven doing the grill this time oven next love making it better than Ma boiling all veggies to death want a few nutrients left right
I steam them, about 6 minutes I think. They should still be a bit firm at our house.

I pop asparagus in the microwave with a splash of water and a couple of pats of butter... Best in a microwavable container with cellophane on top. Same as steaming them. and about the same time but I go by smell. Then If you want a bit of Carmelization Pour them into a skillet and brown.

Woke up this morning with a serious back ache...

little trip to the grocery store yesterday bout did me in. water here is awful cant be drunk without lemon or ice-cubes... forms stalagmites if allowed to drip.... So I buy Gallon jugs for drinking.

I used to be able to fit twelve jugs in the scooter cart... Best I could to is nine... and at moms request a twelve pack of sugar free Sierra Mist.... got food for me.....

Ground turkey.... watermelon cubes.... Pluots.... sugar free Popsicles.... A microwavable steamer cup for soup big enough to put a whole bowl in from ell Pollo loco... or some place else.

I forget what else... a very nice lady helped me unload at the register.. we chatted a bit... and bagger loaded it back up and helped me out.

I like grocery shopping i get to talk to people.....

Made it home and was able to bring two bags in before I collapsed in my work chair. Mom brought the last bag in and her sierra mist.... Then a serious paradigm shift happened. Mom and I cooperated in doing a small task of loading the refrigerator.

We got it done without fighting and some mutual appreciation. NEVER HAPPENS.

Wow. So impressive! Must feel great ... or weird!

That is how I "test" artichokes. I cook those in a pressure cooker and the only way to know when they are done is when the steam "smells right".

:wee
Perhaps the start of a turnaround in the relationship.

Yes.... it does.. Shes been purging at her house... A very good thing... she hired someone who was a dynamo to help her... I am stunned about what she was able to let go...

Maybe we both have been going through some changes.... She learning how to purge. Me how to let go of "control"....

we will see if it sticks....

It's hard, Perchie. Change doesn't come easy at our ages. I'm learning to let go and ask for help. Always been too independent for my own good. Wind up exhausting and stressing myself out too much. It hasn't been easy. But I'm getting there.

Warm day here today but not unbearably hot. I got a bad sunburn several days ago. Didn't feel it happen but it did and I'm beet red on my shoulders and neck as I was wearing a racer back top while working out in the coop. I underestimated the Missouri sun. Some better today. I can tolerate a t-shirt and straps on my shoulders. Not great but tolerable. I've been sunscreening but it hasn't helped. Blew right through it and it's an SPF 50 so IDK what went wrong. Maybe outdated. I'll have to check.

Separated to chicks from mom today. I saw T-Rex squat for a rooster so I knew it was time. She isn't paying as much attention to her chicks and I have three eggs due to hatch this week some time so time to move the little family occupying my temporary broody pen out so the new family can move in. T's chicks aren't happy but that's the way it goes. The older chicks in the grow out pen have somebody new to pick on so I have to keep an eye on them and plan out my new grow out pen. Always something.

Just gave the pup her second vaccine. Not paying over $300 at the vet for 4 shots.
Whow, cashy. DH just took one of our cats in for vaccines (2) and check up. 57 dollars out the door including cleaning liquid for his ears. When we did the 5 pups it was just 257 with heartworm medicine thrown in.
