The Old Folks Home

Yep I spent three months one time Reaching into my diesel with the ignition on to pop up the fuel shut off solenoid. So I could start the truck. cut a divit in my arm every time.
I couldnt afford the three hundred to fix it.

broke the bolt in the hole, which is in the engine block
I've been lucky a couple times doing that, the rest of the broken bolt wasn't seized up and could tap it around with a screwdriver and get it out.
Once on a alternator bolt in the block I tried using a easyout, drill a hole in the end of the bolt and it screws in a ways and it turns the bolt out, but... I didn't drill a big enough hole so the easyout only went in a little ways and broke off... They are hardened and couldn't drill it. Drove the car with the alternator tightened up with a ratchet strap and a wood wedge lol, worked.

Dh replaced the belt on my truck. That didn't fix it. It tries to turn over, but can't. He got to searching, and the belt whacked something else. It's a part that senses, and controls gas flow. When the belt whacked it, it bent it.

Dh tried to remove it, but broke the bolt in the hole, which is in the engine block. Now he's got to remove the radiator, etc. to get to the engine block, and drill out the old bolt, and put a new one in to hold that part in place. He can't see anything else that the belt whipping around, may have hit, and broken, so we're hoping this fixes it. If that doesn't fix it, we will wait until my mechanic is home from vacation, and have him fix it, but it sure would be nice, and cheaper if DH could get it fixed.
A bolt extractor might be a better bet--use a lot of penetrating oil. If you can get the bolt out, you can avoid having tap the hole

That's what I meant by a easyout, actually EZout, bolt extractor. Just don't do what I did and snap it off in the bolt.
Sometimes... you can get lucky and drill the bolt out a little smaller than the threads, pick at and pry what's left and pull it out with without damaging the threads. Have to keep it perfectly straight when drilling which is surprisingly way more difficult than you'd think.
I hate working on vehicles but always do hate paying someone $$$ more.
