The Old Folks Home

people post, asking for advice, and then argue with folks who really are experts!

*sigh* My husband has done this to me all of our married lives. He'll ask my opinion on something, then give me chapter and verse about why he's not going to do any of the things I suggest or why my concerns are pointless. I wind up feeling like, "if my opinion is of so little value to you, why do you bother to ask?" And then, if it all goes kaflooey in the way I feared it would, I get the fun of swallowing the words, "I told you so" (because saying it out loud truly is pointless).

Ah but it is aimed at your barn ? hopefully no big winds tonight
Yes, it was leaning toward the barn! And the electric supply. But hubby put a rope on it and I pushed it over! I cut the fence tacked to it, and he cut the tree up. More firewood. I just need to tack wire on the gate and hubby can put it up.

Morning all! We are in Indian summer here. Temps in the 50s off and on this week. Deer hunting season starts on the 16th here and wouldn't you know it, they are calling for the high to be 39 that day.

On the agenda for today, make more apple pie jam. This stuff is delicious. I had never made it before but decided to give the recipe a try as I was going to make apple jelly but couldn't bring myself to throw all that wonderful apple 'pulp' away once the juice was out of it.

This recipe calls for dicing the apple (after peeling and coring) then adding cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger along with sure jell to make a jam that tastes exactly like apple pie filling.

It's a bit of a job making it but worth the pain and suffering, LOL. I'll post a pic once I get the next batch done.

Gave the chicken run a bit of a makeover yesterday :lau

3 trailer loads of wood chips and a ton of raked up leaves later....

The girls are LOVING it this morning though so well worth it. I included a bunch of pictures of them at the end. :)

I can't send Dh anywhere. He was going to AT&T to get them to flash the firmware in Dd's phone. It was bad, right out of the box, and has caused her phone to never be able to update. In the meantime, she cracked a tiny place on her screen. I told him not to bother about that. It's been that way, and it's fine. Hasn't spidered, or anything.

I was talking on my phone, when it disconnected. When I went to call back, a message popped up that my SIM card was not supported. I grabbed the house phone, and called him. Did he know anything about my phone not working. Oops, they were working on Dd's phone, and would get everything straightened out shortly. He walked in about 20 minutes later. He bought me a new Galaxy S10+ phone. I was to give my phone to my daughter. They couldn't fix hers, and he decided if he was going to have to pay for a phone, I was to be the one to get it. I'm grateful. I did NOT need a new phone. I did not especially want a new phone. I did not want the expense for a new phone. BUT I am grateful that I'm the first one he thinks of in things like this.

I hope you like the new phone

It's ever so slightly better than the S8. Not enough to justify the $1,000.00 price tag though. Oh, my S8 phone case is the right size, however, the on/of button is not in the same location as with the S8, so I have to get a new case. I will do that this pay day, but it feels a little naked without it.

But because people post, asking for advice, and then argue with folks who really are experts! If they are new, they might not realize who is an expert. But it was disturbing.
Yep. I bailed on the coop thread some time ago for that reason. People would post their newly built coop and ask for opinions. If I have a lot of threads to catch up on I go straight to the "constructive criticism". Then a quantity of people (not all) would get all pissy because I found some faults. Then WHY did you ask for opinions? Just tell us to post back that it is FABULOUS!!!.

And others would get pissy because I didn't make nice before the criticism. Have to wonder if some of the people even read up on the coop thread for ideas and info before designing and building. I swear the "chicken wire won't keep predators out" info must be on every other dang page yet here comes yet another masterpiece with chicken wire attached with Arrow staple gun staples. I gave up.
