The Old Folks Home

No predators last night, and no rodents. :weeFinally! It's taken some time to get there, but for at least 1 night I hit my goal. Of course, at about 4:30 am, the wind picked up, and began howling, it began raining a little, the temperature began falling like a rock, and one of my tarps came loose on the coop. I was too tired to go mess with it. It wasn't cold enough yet to be concerned, and they were dry, so I just let it flap. It's fixed now.

I was trying to share a couple videos, but it won't allow me to put them up directly, like with photos. I'd have to create a Youtube account, or something similar, to be able to do it. It's not worth it to me. Sorry folks. I have a video of the second night, when a normal sized raccoon touched the fence, and it's reaction.

Tonight, I have not seen one mouse, or rat. The reason for that, has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything I've done on my part. A mouse, or two were walking along the upper portion of the back fence (not electric), and this huge owl swooped in, and snagged one. The owl hung around the fence line for quite some time. I suspect, it's still out there, watching. I got it all on video, which is the second one I was going to share.

IF the owl continues to hang around, I will removed all the poisonous bait blocks. It's not my intention to harm the wildlife here, unless I have no other alternative.
I have seen some use facebook for videos. The settings need to be set to allow not facebook users to see it though

It's going down to 32 tonight. It's only got up to 55 today. It wouldn't be bad, but it's very windy out. 7 mph sustained winds, with 17 mph gusts. The chickens are tucked in, all cozy, and secure.
Down to 17 and 19 last couple of nights..up to 40 today. That's Utah. What's up with Florida weather???? I used to live there..northern part too..never got that cold in Fernandina Beach!

It must be chick season as I've got several inquiries if I'm going to have any anytime soon. The short answer is "Nope" as I've got a new rescue dog coming in today AND we're putting the Santa Fe place on the market after the boiler situation gets resolved. The Brinsea is kind of set and forget, but I'm so frazzed that I'd probably REALLY forget and it'd be a sad situation in the back bedroom in 21 days. Maybe later....

New dog being shipped up from TX for arrival tonight is Slatex Selene who ran 77 races with a 41% 1st/2nd place record and who then went on to whelp 28 puppies (27 of which went on to race.) She got a bit run down after 6 litters and has been in a very crowded foster home of the rescue for far too long (close to a year) and hasn't been adopted due to her age (9). Poor girl has been used and industrialized and needs a soft place to land.
Old(er) dogs rock!
