The Old Folks Home

I have been busy, still getting ready for winter! Luckily it has been fairly mild here. At the same time, I have been trying to spruce up coops, hutches and brooders. The quail cages are being changed into brooders. Some will be added together to make coops for bantams. Still setting up my 5 gallon water buckets with horizontal nipples, and putting aquarium heaters in them. I have thermostat cubes that turn the heaters on when it's cold.
The latest chicks I bought are bantam polish!

Adorable!!!

Interesting you all suplement food as I was raised to do that with spare vegies or mealworms style treat. Dad raised maggots, grossed me out but fed them like treats..
I use mealworms just as gross but hey dead bought in huge bags now.
I get lots of comments how great my eggs are
My hens get kale everyday and sometimes seeds from squash. They mostly get chicken feed and whatever bugs they find in the yard

They are very cute!

Pennsylvania's governor got covid-19 now an according to him, he was wearing a mask religiously. That virus is an elusive critter
Masks are one part. The critical thing is the amount of time you are exposed to the virus. Masks can lower the amount of virus you get but the longer you are exposed the more of a virus load you get. When you get enough, you will get sick

That is the reason why attending an event inside for more than an hour is worse then going to a grocery store for 10 minutes and not being close to people. Events indoors often have people not covering their noses. The virus goes into the nose and then down into your organs. They have seen the virus go up the nose hairs and up into the brain with microscopes.

Covid is an aerosol and floats in the air. A person does not have to be hit with liquid to catch it so shields do not do much

I have seen Governors in the news-- They usually take the mask off when giving a speech.

Masks worn correctly by all, staying away from people, testing and quarantine are what is needed. Then of course everyone that can get vaccinated needs to get vaccinated
