The Old Folks Home

I've kept the goats this long, what's another couple years?

How's your daughter? Wife? Cat? Fish? Alpacas? (in that order)
DD1 is safely at school in New Brunswick where Covid is known but pretty rare. She applied for and got a $500 scholarship. And she was awarded a $2,400 scholarship she didn't even know existed (all money in Canadian $). They award it to the top 30 upperclassmen. Surprise! but not surprised, she works her tail off even while living with her 24 hour migraine. She's not relaxed much from her "100% is ALMOST good enough" attitude when it comes to school work.

DW is fine, still working the P.O. 6 days a week.

The 3 cats are fine.

Aquarium fish fine, I have to ASSUME the fish in the pond are fine. I have no idea if the 2 tiny bluegill we rescued and raised in the house all winter when the pond went dry in 2018 are alive or not. They were put back in the pond in May 2019 and haven't been seen since.

The alpacas are fine, just as "do NOT touch me" as ever.

The chickens are upset you didn't ask about them ;) But they are fine, there are 20 ranging in age 8.5 years (2) to 1.5 years old.

DD2 is fine as well. The ski area finally opened up a few weeks ago so she is back working the bunny slope mid station 5 days a week.

But no matter how you try you'll never catch up to us older old folks. At least as long as we are still waking up in the morning.

Nope, right on schedule!

Yep. That happened here back in 2013. Most of half the house just rebuilt, new standing seam roof. I happened to be between the barns and heard that first small rumble. I looked up to see a reasonably small slab of ice sliding down and hitting the deck. Then I watched as sections that must have been 8' 'tall' and 10' wide and 8" thick start to slide, slam into the deck and shatter then bounce onto the ground. Fortunately at that time it was just plywood deck and no posts or railing. If it had been finished there would no longer be posts or railing. I pretty much immediately started researching snow rails, bought some and installed them. No more ice slides for me!!
We have snow rails now too. But no snow.

Good morning! Making breakfast, packing food for the next two meals, taking care of my ladies and its off to the mall to get my orders done! I ran out of supplies yesterday and so many stores aren't fully stocked. Maybe due to covid? Mail order shipping is a long wait. According to tracking, mail sits in Harrisburg 3-4 days.
I am still awaiting packages that were supposed to arrive the 31st!

Hit the stores yesterday and the Gods were smiling as there was ample parking and no lines to get in. Yay!
Not feeling particularly motivated today as a storm is moving in. My knees say something's out there, but my weather-predicting snow toe hasn't kicked in.
Gray, cold and gloomy out. Bleh. I need to go sit for a spell in the project room (reallocated guest bedroom also used for incubating/hatching) to warm up with the light and heat of the indoor salad unit (hydroponic...very bright in there and nice trickling waterfall sounds.) Had our first harvest the other day, but -- honestly -- I'm loving the units for their SAD-alleviating powers.

(first harvest -- a salad spinner full that didn't even put a dent in the greenery)

You are SO impatient! ;)

I'm still waiting for a package that "shipped" on Dec 2. That is the date the USPS shipping label was created. It is one of DD2's XMas gifts, 8 cans of Graber olives. I called 2 weeks ago, really bad connection but I THOUGHT I was told they would figure out what happened and get back to me.

Nada so I called again last week, good connection this time. The lady put me on hold and contacted someone in the shipping department. Apparently they couldn't get shipping boxes from the PO but they were ready to ship. DW says she's having the same problem getting them for her P.O. to sell. The current tracking says the package has made it to Nashua, NH and should be here Monday.
