The Old Folks Home

I saw a bluebird today and was pulling weeds in the garden.
I haven't seen any but DH got buzzed by a pair while we were walking near the timber a few days ago.

I saw a meadow lark sitting in the top of a tree near the house and he was singing his head off. Mankind cannot compose music that sweet.

We don't either, Cap. But here's the cincher. We have a service box out near the front of our house. When our cell reception became so sporadic, we called Mark Twain Telephone who owns the box and asked them about hooking up a land line. Their response? Oh no, that box is there but we don't have service in that area!

Say what!

Yesterday I needed to phone in refills to the pharmacist. Dropped the call in the house. Moved out to our back porch which is covered with an overhang and stood near the house and tried again. Nope, kept cutting out. Moved to the north east corner of the porch and leaned out so my head was sticking out in the open. There's the ticket. Perfect reception.

Need I add that it was pour rain at the moment and windy?

My doctor is doing telephone appointments. They don't even question me any more when I tell them that I need to watch the weather before I set up an appointment because I will probably have to be standing in front of the barn or out in the pasture in order to get a half way decent signal so I can talk to them.

Why is it we can put people in a space station, send an unmanned exploration mission to Mars but we can't get a stinking cell phone service that works!?

That is the main reason that DH and I became HAM radio operators.
When I first moved here, I had lousy cell reception, and it's the only thing I have... ATT actually provisioned my phone with wifi calling, so now my calls go out through my wifi router instead of the nearest tower. I think that's pretty nifty, even if it was nearly 2 years in the making.

I saw my first yellow swallowtail butterfly today.. they are migrating northward.

BTW - getting older is OK. 40 was scary but, 50, 60,70 no big deal. I am 73 and headed to 74 in July.:)fl) I was getting white hairs in high school, I am totally white haired and love it - no joke. I've seen women who call themselves platinum blond and it's the same color as my hair. - of course my roots aren't black like theirs are.
