The Old Folks Home

So, I sent a cute little email off to Hoover Hatchery tonight and include the pic with the one mixed up chick. I wonder if they will respond? Let them know that I bought chicks last year too that claimed to be BR pullets and were all cockerels, and the "Black Asians' turned out to be a cockoo marans and two BSL. Supposedly that's where TSC gets all their chicks from so I assumed they would at least read the shipping label/packing list as to what the chick are instead of EWAGing it.

Had a truck come into our dairy plant with a big duck hood emblem yesterday. Figured that has to mean something, not something I've seen before. Googled it , yup .
Off now to watch Convoy with Kris Kristofferson, sure I've saw it back when I was a kid but don't remember it.
Good night you'all.

Nite Pert.

Two of my favorite movies. Convoy and Smokey and the Bandit.

@CSolis. If she is getting off the nest you will know it when she leaves you a big ol stink to high heavens broody poo for your enjoyment. It's like how can such a monstrous poop come out of a little hen and smell THAT bad?

One of the guys here at the home gave me some of the best advice when dealing with a broody. Put them by themselves with their nesting box and an area they can roam around in without being harassed by roosters, and where other hens can't commandeer her nest for their own laying needs. Trust me. It solves a multitude of problems and you will be able to tell if she is getting off the nest to eat/drink and she won't be getting into the wrong nest box which I have had happen.

One year I had three hens go broody at once. They kept playing musical nests. Doesn't sound bad until you realize they haven't been able to get to their nest because another hen has taken it over in her absence and she's now sitting on a nest with two newly laid eggs in it instead of her own nest with 6 incubating eggs.

I had a terrible hatch from that fubar but learned my lesson the hard way.

Thanks for that bit of advice. I'll move Graystoke and the other two ladies out of there tomorrow and put them in the large round pen until the eggs hatch or she gives up. Really don't have a smaller pen where I could move her and her eggs to since I never thought of that, but I was wondering about her being bothered by the other guys once the eggs hatched.

And #3 Beilefelder egg just hatched. Photos when it's dry.. but... Who has my Beilefelder hen been messing with?? Hmmmmmmm? First two chicks look like Beilefelders should look, third popped out black with dark legs! She's been with only ONE roo this whole time. My guess was he wasn't a Beilefelder to begin with, but an EE based on coloring... only thing is.. he's so danged sweet. He just never had enough brown in him to justify calling him a Beilefelder if you ask me. Either that or the guy I bought the Beilefelders from didn't know his B's from his rump.

@CapricornFarm. Hate to hear that you are having problems with your knee. Hope you get to the bottom of what is happening with it.

My feet are giving me the fits. I have an appointment Tuesday morning with my Rheumy's PA and have been holding off taking any of my steroids that they gave me so I don't mask the symptoms. It's been going on for weeks. Regular doc told me I was using my head but I wanted to tell him he doesn't have to put up with the pain until then.
Thanks, I did get a brace today so that helps.
