The Old Folks Home

Just got another Sid report. She is staying overnight. Saw something 'round' on her x-ray.

Okay, so the little turd isn't as smart as I thought she was....geesh she will never live this one down. She's dumber than her brothers...she's dumber than Ben and that's pretty dumb. That dog falls over when he heists his leg to pee.

Morning everyone.

@getaclue, back to what I said about the cost of being a doctor outweighing the need for doctors.. The cost of education, plus the cost of licensing, both state and federal for the DEA, continuing education and the big one malpractice insurance in a sue happy society figures into the costs to just set up and run a practice. Lab fees, employee costs, equipment cost, building costs, practice insurance on building and equipment, advertising. The list goes on.

New grads cannot afford to set up their own private practices so they go to work for a hospital or group owned business where everything is provided for them. Plus you have to remember that insurance companies pay a fraction of what the doctor charges for their services. Patients pay a percentage after that and the practice is expected to write off the rest. If the doctor charges 125$ for a medicare patient office visit, medicare will pay maybe 52$ to the practice, the patient will pay 15 $ and the practice is expected to write off the rest.

Ever wonder why out of pocket prices are so high? This is why. Cash paying patients who pay out of pocket make up the difference. The problem is one that isn't going to fix itself. It will become increasingly difficult for people to get timely appointments with their doctors or specialists.

Personally my rheumatologist is booking 3 months in advance also, Clue. It's a pain in the butt.

But I worked for my husband for over 7 years and he was in the medical profession for 40 years so I know what I'm talking about here when it comes to how doctor's offices are ran and what goes into running them.

Patients where we practiced are now having to travel 20+ miles for eyecare if not farther. Small town doctors provide a valuable service but the only way that the town's MD was able to stay in business was to sell out to a hospital in the nearest small city. THEY built him a new building and are now running the 'business' end of the practice. This will be the trend of the future. It isn't going to get any easier.

Sorry for the rant. Our Sidney is no better this morning. She can't keep anything down and is weaker. She's going back to the doctors. Thank God he is only 10 miles away.
How is Sydney today?

Not good. She started refusing fluids last night. We were spoon feeding her liquids until noon when she exploded from the other end so we wound up taking her up to an emergency vet in Kirksville. I think they suspect a foreign body. Dummy ate something she shouldn't. Now the big question is what?

Give her my best, Ron, tell her to take care of herself, what she can't do today will be there tomorrow. Those danged house elves don't come out overnight to do the work like they are supposed to.

DH is on his way to Kirksville with our Sidney for emergency medical care. She was getting progressively worse and developed diarrhea right before noon. Doc at the vet hospital thinks it's either an obstruction or a severe gastroenteritis. Either one we were in over our heads after two + days of specialized care and our vet admitted that he wasn't set up to handle an obstruction if that is what is wrong with her. Either way she needs hospitalization and fluids so they are going to help her there.

Pretty disappointed in our local vet. If he suspected that on Friday..........

She needs prayers everyone. She is a sick little girl.
Could it be parvovirus?

Cap, how are your goats doing anyway? If I remember right one of them was having some problems last time I heard.

Any babies yet?
The goats are great. Hubby couldn't get them to go in the goat house when I was going to be gone overnight for the big swap. :lau
Two of the girls are still quite small, I don't have a buck so when it's time I will rent one or buy it and then sell it .

Dogs are not the only things that eat things they shouldn't. When my middle daughter was about 4, she kept complaining about a tummy ache. A few days of that, and I took her to the doctor. They did an X-ray. There was a + in her stomach. I mentioned that it was too small to be my cross necklace, and I was pretty sure the child was not holy, so what was the cross in her tummy. It was a very small hearing aid battery. Her sisters dared her to swallow it, so she did.

OMG! That can be dangerous. Something about the batteries causing damage to the intestinal walls if one gets that far!

We've been watching a BBC series on Amazon called Bizarre ER. You wouldn't believe some of the things they pull out of kids' ears and noses. One had a tiny figurine shoved up a nostril. They pulled it out with kiddo screaming and the moment they popped it out kiddo blinks, takes a deep breath through his nose and says I Can Breathe Again. I'm sure the parents were like.....:smack

DH just got home. He said they are going to call us later but they suspect a foreign body in her bowel. At least it moved that far if that is what it is and we are hoping.
