The Old Folks Home

Hi @Redhead_Gardener from another redheaded gardener...well my hair used to be red before it turned gray and faded dk blonde/red.

Glad you could join us at the Home. There is always an empty rocking chair and newcomers are always welcome to grab a glass of iced tea or whatever you drink preference is and sit a spell with us. Always lively conversation and a wealth of understanding from all of us as we have one thing in common....dealing with getting older.

Cheers, love.
I am 40 years of age...though these days as the world is...i feel 80 sometimes. Time moves so quickly.
I have a daughter age 21 who still lives at home. Sad to say, I lost my 17 year old son to battle no one knew he was fighting 7 months ago.

I was an O.R. nurse and surgical first assist for 15 years. As of last year I'm disabled with epilepsy and elhers danlos syndrome.

I like staying busy even at home though.
Chickens, ducks, dogs, family, and baking!

I'm a retired nurse also. Did everything from OB scrub to Alzheimer Care nursing. My husband is a retired eye doctor and we live in north eastern/central Missouri on a 29 acre play ground.

We have 6 dogs, 5 cats and way too many chickens.

You are not alone when it comes to dealing with chronic health problems. Many of us are also. I think it's a benefit or punishment for living as long as we have. Me, I have serum negative RA, Osteo porosis/penia/arthritis along with nasty things happening to my spine and joints. It's slowed me down but hasn't stopped me. We all have broad shoulders here at the home and support one another when we aren't feeling well.

So sorry that you have lost a child. :hugs Such a tragedy. My mother used to say that you could bury your parents or spouse but when you bury a child you bury your heart.

Neither my husband or I have kids, alone or together. Our animals are our furchildren and keep us busy as does our hobby farm.

We are so glad you joined us. Are you a Brit? What kind of chickens/ducks do you have? I have a mixed flock of Egyptian Fayoumis, OEGBs and Amish barnyard crosses to keep me way too busy but I love every minute of it.

Cheers, love.

Hello. New to the thread. New to BYC. Been trying to get the lay of the land so to speak.

It's Sunday and I have to get ready for a Dr appointment. I know. How is that even possible? Looking forward to seeing ramblings of the day from others.
Hello, and welcome to the OF community.

@GrandmaDeKorte I don't think I've had a chance to welcome you to the Old Folks Home. So consider yourself welcomed!:frow

I love your pictures. The northwest is so beautiful and I love your porch. I image you spend a lot of time there when the weather is nicer.

@penny1960. If you like the drizzle I send you the 2-3 more inches of rain they are predicting for next week here. Things went from sprouting and greening up to overgrown and ridiculous in something like a week and a half.

I've been out with DH mowing, or rather baling the grass. It's so thick it's choking out my mower.

Welcome to all newcomers! It's been a while since I've been on. Still recovering from the freeze here. I'm going through a complete realignment of our fruit production. We lost 21 of 22 citrus trees so we're switching types of crops. And please no body send me any more rain for the time being. In the past week we've had 31 1/4 inches of rain. Only good thing about that is tomato and pepper production is gonna be crazy good!
