The Old Folks Home

Hey everyone! Quite unusual weather here today I think. It got to like 86! Possibly higher. Think the high was listed as 88 or 90  don’t think it actually hit that though. But it was definitely HOT!! And sunny too making it feel hotter hahah thankfully tonight it is quite cool 🥰
you can look up your local weather on wunderground.com They have different people in your area recording it and you'll find hourly measurements. :thumbsup

You go girl!

Shopping cart to hang on to will help you also. Do you have access to one of these little dudes to help you ambulate around:

I just finished reading an article about my degenerative disc disease and they recommend these simply because you are leaning at an angle that causes the pressure to be taken off of your spine.

I fully intend to get one some time in the future.
One thing I have already figured out is 'stand up straight'. I have less wobbling to deal with by standing up erect than leaning forward. My right calf and hip were beginning to bother me until I stood straight up when walking. Still not having to deal with degenerating discs so far. ♥️

Any knitters?
I've seen a few threads about knitting, but not a "regular" one where people post every day. I knit, but not as much anymore. I used to have a small business, spinning yarn, designing, and knitting one-of-a-kind sweaters. I couldn't make enough money at it to make it pay, though. Maybe if I could have sold stuff in Chicago or NYC, but not here in west Michigan.

But talk about knitting anytime! :thumbsup

@CSolis I know I'm wasting my breath, but please take it easy , Bud. Let your body heal.

I'm a retired nurse also. Did everything from OB scrub to Alzheimer Care nursing. My husband is a retired eye doctor and we live in north eastern/central Missouri on a 29 acre play ground.

We have 6 dogs, 5 cats and way too many chickens.

You are not alone when it comes to dealing with chronic health problems. Many of us are also. I think it's a benefit or punishment for living as long as we have. Me, I have serum negative RA, Osteo porosis/penia/arthritis along with nasty things happening to my spine and joints. It's slowed me down but hasn't stopped me. We all have broad shoulders here at the home and support one another when we aren't feeling well.

So sorry that you have lost a child. :hugs Such a tragedy. My mother used to say that you could bury your parents or spouse but when you bury a child you bury your heart.

Neither my husband or I have kids, alone or together. Our animals are our furchildren and keep us busy as does our hobby farm.

We are so glad you joined us. Are you a Brit? What kind of chickens/ducks do you have? I have a mixed flock of Egyptian Fayoumis, OEGBs and Amish barnyard crosses to keep me way too busy but I love every minute of it.
I must say, your mothers quote is very accurate and well said.

And I can relate to bone issues. My genetic disorder has many comorbidities. But one of the major effects is joints. I have osteoarthritis in several joints. And I injure easily having micro tears and inflammation in tendons and ligaments. I was once a competitive body builder. And I do credit that for giving me 10 more years than drs predicted before a cane would be necessary . And I am not crippled as predicted at this age. I still go to the gym regularly. I'm not willing to give up the war yet. 😉

I'd love to see pics of your birds. Especially your Egyptians.
I have a small flock due to where I live.
So I wanted a variety of eggs. A lot different from when I once had over 30 chickens and 40 acres.
Currently I have 3 pullets that are 2 leghorns and 1 buff Orpington. The orp is my spoiled baby girl. She's always on my back or shoulders.
And we have 4 in the brooder just 2 weeks old. 1 Easter egger, 1 olive egger, a barred rock, and a golden laced Wyandotte. And 2 ducks.. Rouen I think???

I am English. From Gloucestershire. An area called the Cotswolds. I am in Florida now. Where trying to garden in this heat and humidity with biting flies is like trying to garden in the foyer to hell. Cannot grow squash here to save my life. Year 3 in the attempt. Fungal issues attributed to humidity every time. No matter the season I try growing them.

When I lived in Seminole Al, across the state line from Pensacola, try as I might I could not grow a garden to save myself. I'm now 30+ miles north of the Panhandle near Andalusia and I barely have to try. Corn is 7 foot tall and silk is turning, squash is inundating me with food. I've already picked a mess of green beans, and my tomato plants are chest high, strong and loaded with fruit.. Watermelon patch and the great pumpkin patch are going gang busters. It is the sandy soil in Florida, and all the flooding that brings in garbage fungus and bacteria. Best you can do is raised bed gardening in some areas.
