BTW Morning OF. I was up at 1 am, finally got back to sleep around 5 am. Thought it was a tad early to be posting here. :lau
Good grief! What were you doing up that early? I was just about getting to sleep then for the first time.

Welcome to the home! Pull up a rocker and sit a spell with us!

Morning all! Yesterday was one of those days that I hit the ground running and didn't stop till about 11:30 when I finally made it to bed.

Got some work done on the coop. The weather here is finally a bit more tolerable although I read on the news this morning about the flooding out east that you are all putting up with. We have a friend out in Penn. who got 7 inches. We have seen 6 inches of rain in a single rainfall so 7 is more than I would want. 6 is too much.

Then I read that the midwest is in the crosshairs now for heavy rain. Checked and yep. Could see up to two inches tomorrow. We still haven't dried out from the 2.75 that we got over the weekend so it should be interesting.

The martingale collars. I've read about those. Do you think one would work on a tough little cattle dog who likes to jump up and nip even on a leash and prong collar?

That is our Varn. He gets so excited that he starts 'heeling' anything in sight, even if it's us. Those little front teeth are sharp. The prong collars work on dogs who like to pull but let the leash go slack and games' on.

Speaking of 'games on' we took Ben and Diesel out for a run last night and Diesel encountered his first deer. Bumped the silly thing near the house--like what was that deer thinking anyway--chased it across the pasture and into the timber which swallowed up dog and deer. DH rounded up Ben who actually came and set down in front of me when I called him....good dog!...and I went after Diesel. What a hike is all I can say. Found out I could climb down into and out of a deep ravine without too much difficulty using fallen timber in the ravine. Must have a recessive goat gene somewhere. Ran into spideys and all kinds of brambles and burs calling my brains out the whole way. Finally saw the white tip of a tail in the underbrush and here came Diesel, wearing that sappy cattle dog grin and all into himself over his great adventure as a deer tracker.

The neighbor's cows were mooing and I kept thinking, please God don't let him see the cows, as I hiked myself and him back home...avoiding the ravine this time. Didn't want a nimble little dog outshining me!

Spent a half hour pulling burs out of my clothing, the dogs' fur and out of my skin. Good news is that my steroids that I keep on hand for flares are on board and doing their job so very little pain this morning.

Hope you all stay safe out there to the east. Keeping you in my prayers.

Glad to hear you had such a great day yesterday. Give your muscles time to rest after that workout.
What was I doing up? Just couldn't sleep. I had 4 hours of sleep and was wired for sound. So, I just piddled around until I finally got sleepy again, then slept until 8:30. So I got 7-8 hours all told.
The little showgirl chick Amanda loaned me is a hoot. They are well into their second week going on 3. I had raised the heat lamp to lower the temps a bit in the brooder. Cheep cheep cheep cheep all day long. I picked her up to craddle her in my hands and she was shivering of all things. Lowered the lamp again, now holding at 92 degrees and she's quite happy. My chick on the other hand is happy all the time. It runs right up to my hand for chest rubs whenever I check the brooder. Good little chick. She says 'I'm a showgirl!' and mine responds 'Get over it and be happy!'.

So maybe the lack of neck feathers means she's a little more heat sensitive?

I would love to have a show girl silkie but even with vaccines for MD I'd be worried to bring a silkie into the flock.

Plus, I'm never at a loss for broodies. T-Rex is still in the mommy mode so I can count on her to be parked on 2-9 eggs a night. Hopefully the cooler weather will knock the broody out of her if the shorter days doesn't.

I have nights like that. Me? I like to read before I go to sleep. DH can't understand it. I tell him it relaxes me and it does. When I find myself nodding off, I turn off my Kindle Fire and am asleep before my head hits the pillow.

On the other hand, my better half can fall asleep between saying 'good' and 'night'.

The muscles are in surprisingly good shape. I have been having a lot of early AM knee pain so after three days worth of it I caved and took one of my dose packs of steroids. First time in 6 months which is a long stretch for me. So my muscles are going...sore? We aren't sore! Don't you want to go out and build something?'

Ahh the joy of a steroid buzz.

I had been reading for about two hours before I went to sleep at 9. Then just woke up. Is it morning yet, need to get going!
