The Old Folks Home

Trying to banish my humbug attitude. It's seasonal and will dissipate, but hard to get in the holiday spirit today. I think it has to do with I feel saddled with ALL the holiday gyrations of presents for family and cards, decor, etc., and feeling scrunched for time.
What gets y'all in a festive mood?
Snow falling, christmas decor, visiting friends, wrapping presents and making gifts.

Where I used to work, Christmas was The Season. "Christmas" was "the c-word." If someone actually said "Christmas" to you, you had the right to say, "Don't you swear at me, young lady/man!" 12-14 hour days, on my feet. And some of those years, I was (illegally) on salary, so the extra hours did nothing for my paycheck.

I never had the energy to get in the mood. I wanted it all to be over. Christmas also carried a lot of (very heavy) baggage for me.

I've been able to set a lot of that aside in the last few years, thank goodness. And I'm retired, so now I have time to want to get in the mood. Life is much better now. :)

Is everyone else tired of the Christmas music in the stores?!? I have a handful of carols I really like, and they need to be sung by a GOOD choir.

Does anyone know the carol, "The Three Kings" by Healy Willan? (It's not the same song as We Three Kings.) I sang it in choir in college, and never heard it anywhere since, except for online.

Hooray! We're not old folk; we're middle aged!

Someone left the freezer door open outside last night! 10°F when I got up this morning. Not supposed to get up to freezing the next 6 days. I've just now started the wood stove for the year, close to 2 months later than usual.
I bet it's just the Canadians sharing their weather!
