The Old Folks Home

Why SCG how could you possibly know that? Are you psychic?

Sounds just a little passive agressive.

Honestly glad to hear that at least there was no major problems and that no animals were hurt.

SCG--many good benefits to a little OT !

Glad you were able to finish the applesauce in the canner. We used to make gallons of the stuff from the old wild apple trees. Good use of apples. I eat a lot of chicken, to curb my desire for carbs. I'll admit it--I'm a carba holic. I make , rather made , good breads. I add bran to everything! Do you?

Has anyone here ever mad pear sauce..instead of apple sauce? I have a pear tree that is doing great this year! The pears are a very nice size. I was surprised, it's such an old tree, but my DH cut it back last year, and this is what happened..yaay, I love pears, but I can't eat them all. I have already shared a bag of them. I'm feeling a little on the selfish side..I want to keep the rest and do something with them. When we first moved into this house, the neighbor next door asked if he could have the pears that were hanging over the fence to his side, of course we didn't mind, then he told us what he would do with them. Pear sauce. I let him come over and get as many as he needed that year, they were small, and didn't think they would be good for just eating, but I was wrong, even small they were yummy. Anyway, he brought some pear sauce over after he was finished making it. It was sooo good.
If anyone has a good recipe, let me know.. my neighbor moved!

I haven't made pear sauce, but have made preserves. Here's a recipe with good reviews:

We often pass by a pear tree (a few miles from our house) that is absolutely loaded every year. It is 35 - 40 feet tall and so much of it goes to waste. I didn't realize how good and sweet ripe pears could be until a friend gave us some of theirs this year.

I have noticed that superchemicalgirl. Plain rude is what I call it but this self-centredness is getting more widespread. I swear people never used to let each other down as they seem to nowadays. My nephew and fiancee have had to email guests to see if they will be attending the wedding even though they have had posted invitation for weeks. They can't even be bothered to pick up a phone or send an email to say they are/not able to come.

Well the saga continues in that the guardian called BF last night and said oh we forgot there was a soccer game, I'll just bring him over tomorrow morning. I put my foot down on that, she can bring him when BF gets home from work (330ish) because I don't play that game. My life doesn't revolve around you. We had it planned out for Saturday noonish, and you didn't bother to show, call, or pick up your phone. I realize your life is busy, but I waited around all day yesterday for you. (You should see how clean my house is now, though!).

I guess I'm being a bit harsh but it seems like lately no one will nail down plans. Anyone else notice that? It's almost like, yeah I'll go out with you... unless something better comes along or I don't feel like it when the day comes or... I'd like to think I'm worth more than that. I take pride in that if I say I'm going to do something, I do it. I expect that out of others, too. I realize things come up occasionally, but be responsible, people!

Pleased to have you curmudgeon with me (us?).

I've had one of those weeks (that seems to now be stretching into months)... anyone have a funny story to share? I could use a little pick me up. Or an amusing anecdote from your life to make me (us?) feel like we're not the only ones living the absurd life.

Hello Group Cynthia 12---I have a pear tree--little--no pears yet---was thinking the same thing-sauce.Bet you could use pears in any apple recipe. When I get some I am going to make me some sauce--humhum. Let us know how it turns out. Happy eating Mrs.Puckridge
