I received 5 Wheaten Penedesencas today from mediazeal, I plan on crossing them with my BW Ameraucana cockerel when they all reach maturity. My Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Olive Egger project is officially underway!

The first 2 chicks were born last week, the chicks in the second picture were hatched just yesterday.

His beard came in full for sure! We've been feeding them watermelon to help fight the heat and now instead of it being white, it's sorta pink colored when its dry, L0L!

I hope that beard gets carried over into his Olive Egger offspring, I can hardly wait until next year to start hatching.

Here's a shot of my new OE chicks in with their foster momma. This is her first time as a broody, and she's probably the best one we've had!

They chicks have EE moms and a Black Copper Marans dad. I never get tired of the fluffy faces and feathered legs!

They move into their bigger digs tomorrow!

Urban, I have yet to hatch an olive egger WITHOUT beard/muffs! Some larger than others, but they're always there - at least with mine! You gotta love those beards/muffs!

My Oliver eggers are also under way! I have a cross from my Americuna hen and my Black Copper Marans roo. I will post some pictures on Monday. I would like some guesses on gender! They are all mostly black, with some brown on their necks. I am waiting to see it the combs get red faster then the others. That was a big indicator with the BCM, when he was young. Do you think that would be the case with these?

They are about a month old now, and still in the brooder. It is quite large. I guess I could put them out in the coop, with the others, and just separate them. It just would be for a long time, since they are really small compared to the others. Any thoughts? Is there any advantage to letting them see each other for a long time compared to just a week or two?

Image, with that cross for me, I can never tell until around 8 weeks. The combs of the cockerels being to get larger and redder by then. The "modified pea combs" end up looking bulgy and sloppy on the cockerels, but they sure have some gorgeous coloring!

I'm officially in this club now .. (if I could only tell WHICH hen the egg came from .. lol)

I will be picking up another OliveEgger this weekend .. yay!
