The Olive-Egger thread!

Um....no, not bad at all! I say: LUCKY chickens!

My DH and I are sort of homebodies; we've made our farm into what we view as our paradise! That includes lots of critters. We love them all, and we've made our home such a welcome place to US that we rarely feel a need to go out!

Hey if I were to move to a new house, it MUST be at least 5 acres, have fruit trees already on site and bearing, and have other buildings besides our house.

We got really lucky with the place we own right now. It allows no need to build coops, has other houses so people can pay for your property with you, has several fruit trees already bearing, etc etc.

Course, I could never find myself to live in or too near a city.

DITTO!!!! (Where is that huge font when you need it?)

My biggest fear is getting to the time in life when I cannot handle the critters any longer. I pray that I will recognize this when it is time, and that it won't happen for about 80 more years!

HappyMtn- I'll have to take some pics so you can help me! I definitely have one that looks like a welsummer pullet, but she is the only one I am sure about.

I'm learning so much!

Too bad (well, kind of too bad) living in California wine country.

Acreage is incredibly expensive. Not sure about the area we are moving though

Hi all! I've accidentally gotten a BCM cockerel (I can't have a rooster) and I'm trying to rehome him. Apparently he's not breeder quality as a BCM, but he's awfully pretty - maybe he'd be good for someone's olive egg project? I'm in Pasadena CA if there's anyone interested - otherwise I'll post him on craigslist . . . I'd like to move him out before he starts crowing (he's six weeks now). This is my last try before CL. Anyone interested? Did I mention he's awfully pretty?

Look what I've found today! The very first olive laid by one of my OEgger hen. It's the smallest egg in the middle at the bottom row. I still have to find out though who among the 6 hens

which hatched from the same EE egg on the left, bred with a BCM-rooster which hatched from a dark brown egg similar to the one on the right.

This is my one Olive Egger chick from ruth's eggs that hatched. It's a BIG chick, poofy and adorable all over.

I can't tell if it's blue though, or black? It's little wings make me think blue but the color on it's back is very dark...

I really, really hope this chick is a pullet.

The egg it hatched from was a GORGEOUS coppery penny-olive color, I'll be so sad if it turns out to be a boy.
