The Olive-Egger thread!

Lovely egg, Pink!

Sabella - I would not worry on your blue egger that lays a small egg - I have found (in my experience I should state) that when crossed, the offspring lay MUCH larger eggs than the mother did!

I think I have just accidentally hatched out OEs ?????
All my chickens freerange together. I have 5 EEs that lay light blue eggs, I have 2 roosters that are breeding with them, an EE rooster & a Black Austrolorp rooster.
I have been incubating and selling the chicks, all have been chipmonk colored. I will assume the are EE x EE. This hatch and my last hatch I have some blue & black colored chicks hatching from the blue eggs. I will assume they are EE x Austrolorp.
Could these be OE chicks ???? I hope so !!!!

I will be holding on these chicks

What do you guys think about this Olive Egger Chick, he/she is 12 weeks old.
I always thought it was a he as it always had a bright red comb since it was 3 weeks old, but now its got me thinking that maybe its a she.
reasons for believing that is a hen, the color, her legs are really small, her posture, whta you guys think a he or a she?

They will likely lay green eggs, but not dark olive eggs, but should be pretty and productive nonetheless. Generally speaking an Olive Egger is a blue egg layer (Ameraucana, Araucana, EE) crossed with a dark brown egg layer (Marans, Welsummer, Penedesenca)

I hatched out 3 babies the other day out of blue eggs. Moms were easter eggers and dad is a black langshan...2 of the 3 chicks have feathered legs and I dont think they have puffy cheeks..
If they turn out to be girls, are they going to lay blue or green eggs?

I do have a BCM rooster, a young one. ( 3 months old ) So I could try that also.

Now.... if I breed the green egger chicks to the BCM (when they grow up) will that darken the egg color next generation ? Or will that be too dark and make mud ?

They could be a nice dark olive color but maybe muddy. It's not an exact science. I don't mind the muddy eggs either. I enjoy the full range. Cull your straight combed chicks from that cross, and keep the pea combed ones.
