The Olive-Egger thread!

Hi everyone! I'm from PA near Pittsburgh, I wanted to know if there are any Olive Egger chicken crazy people out my way?? I just got some Ameracunas (think that's how you spell it) and when they get old enough I will breed them to my Copper Maran boy and Buff Orpington. I was thinking of getting a different boy though. What other real dark boys can I get?

Quick question. Would a black french copper marans crossed with a wheaten ameracauna produce a hen that is all black with a brown neck and chest? or does this shout rooster?

Pullets can have color on their chest too. Wheaten is recessive and will not express the first cross.... unless you BCM has wheaten genes too.... but that does not sound like a wheaten color. Often my Olive Eggers will have coloring similar to BCM but more of it than they should.

Here he/she is.... what do you think?

My current batch of chicks are a month old and I'm trying to scope out the keepers already.
I have a few Marans from a B/B/S pen and I hope to get a good roo out of them. Some pretty black Ameraucanas, also hoping for a good roo. But I also have some chicks from my (hopefully) Oliver roo that are turning out pretty. The roo is a Marans x EE with a pea comb, and the only pullet sibling we have of that hatch is laying olive eggs. But one of his sons, crossed on a Cuckoo Marans hen, is really cute. Cuckoo barring, pea comb, green eyes, beard, good conformation.

I just ordered some New Hampshire eggs to replace my main laying flock, and plan to keep a roo from that batch too.
It sounds like an Oliver roo isn't really a good bet for making more Olivers, so I guess I need to sell them so I can keep down to 3 breeding roos. Ugh!! I just wish Olivers bred true. Then I could justify keeping more roos....
