The Olive-Egger thread!

Her Bantam came from my eggs. It is from a silkie xEE hen that lays green eggs(she has a walnut comb) crossed with Japanese bantam rooster(single comb). I have 2 chicks of that cross both have single combs. Im not sure if they are laying yet they are the same age as AVintageLifes pullet.

AVintageLife sorry if we had miscommunication when you got the eggs. The smaller green eggs(bantams) were expected to be bantam EEs hopefully laying light green eggs. The larger green and blue eggs in the carton were the Olive Eggers. I would be more than happy to give you more eggs of your choice from many breeds next spring to make up for the confusion.Thi
No worries, this is the fun part of chickens, waiting to see what you get! We love this little banty, she is a great addition to the flock, so pretty and her first little egg was a beauty, like a pinkish linen color. Wouldn't change a thing. Waiting for our silkies to start laying and we have an unknown breed pullet getting close to POL (from a New Boston fertile egg source) and I'm hoping she lays a white egg. Your eggs were wonderful to hatch this summer, a great hatch rate and beautiful chicks.

Aw really. I just got a new egg the other day too from my chicks I hatched the same time as you. I don't know which pullet yet, it was either a Japanese Bantam or a bantam EE. I also got a tiny tan egg. Did any of the Large Fowl OEs hatch for you,? The LF OE were a cross of blue and green egg laying EEs and BCM. The bantams I wasn't expecting to be OEs I figured light green at best since the dad is a Japanese Bantam.

What color silkies do you raise? My daughter really wants to try silkies again. Our last 2 we raised turned out to be roosters and I rehomed them:(
The silkies have been so much fun. My daughter picked out four silkie chicks in the spring (we had to drive over an hour to get them) and we kept our fingers crossed. Ended up with one cockeral, he's a beautiful cuckoo color (his name is Cuckoo, ha ha) and three pullets ( two black and one buff ). I'd like to get the NPIP testing done and then my daughter can sell some chicks in the summer. You should see Cuckoo try his mating dance on the big girls, a couple are squatting for him but he's not quite there yet. The banty pullet is his size and has feathered toes, can't imagine what sort of chicks we'd get. Next summer is going to be interesting.

I was the one asking for pics

I also love those eggs! Such a nice variety you have. Im hoping I get speckled eggs from my Olive Eggers also.

Seeing pics of the olive eggs lets me live vicariously through you all until I get my own. My oldest OE is 23weeks she is the oldest pullet in her coop, she has been making a nest in the corner of her coop for the past week. So Im hoping it is soon. My younger OE is 16 weeks so I have some time to wait on her.

My olive eggers started laying at 4 months. I got my first egg today from another one (was supposed to be a blue layer).

Well at 24 and a half weeks old one of my OE laid a regular ole brown egg. She has a pea comb and fluffy cheeks and beard. Pretty disappointed in color but happy to have her laying finally. I still have 7 young ones left so maybe they will come through for me.
BTW rooster still not roostering.
