The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks Ron
I have to get the black penedesenca out of the pen as well . Man that rooster is huge. He dwarfs the ameraucana and I fear for there safety lol.
Then I can put the other crele rooster I hatched from my friend Eddie with the Wallabies in there

Have some Creme Legbar eggs in the incubator. So half of a pair anyway =) The eggs got lost for a couple days so will see if they hatch and will continue following the thread out of interest. I love the speckled look of some of the olive eggs.

Sounds good!

Get some Crele Pene eggs for the 11th of December and join the NYD Hatch a Long!

What do you plan to pair your CLs with?

I have an olive egger cockeral (araucanaXcuckoo marans) that crowed for the first time this morning. If some one is willing to give him a home, I will give him to you. Must pick up. No NPIP. He looks like an Araucana, his sister from last year lays a nice deep olive colored egg.

I live in Laurens SC. PM me for my phone number

Yes, they will have the correct black to make Blue or lavendar OEs.

I can't wait to see them!
YAY! I know zip about lavenders...is that the same as self blue? I have more research to do obviously. My little Ams are just August hatch, so we'll both have to wait for Spring. I just locked down my first-ever hatch so I'll have time to learn a lot more. These are 6 of my BCM and 10 mutts from a friend's barnyard mix. Hope all goes well...I'm in the hatch-along so we are all going nuts together. :)

Yes lavender is a self blue. The color is different than 'blue' The advantage is if you mix Lav x Lav you get 100% lavender. the disadvantage is that it is recessive so you have to have 2 copies of the gene for expression. So if you mix Lav x Black you get 0% lav. The second generation cross would get you only 25% lavender. And like I said before, I like blue color more, particularly of those with good lacing genes.

I agree and also prefer the blues. With the Marans they have edging as opposed to lacing, but still very attractive. My blue Wyandottes have edging also. What is the color ratio of a blue based Marans X black Am with a lavender parent? I can only do the charts with easy color genetics at this point :)
