The Olive-Egger thread!

But a Lav with a black copper: would the Lav /black charts still apply? I guess cause i haven't seen a Lav OE before. Sounds great

It should still work.
The Lav with blue copper Marans are giving me blues and blacks .
I'm not worried about messing up colors since they're just oe's
Oh! I mis read. I thought you were breeding blue to lavender.

If it was a Black Marans, then you would get lavender and black chickens. I did not see splash.

I do not know what the copper would do and if it would come out or not.

I think you would get some lavender OEs that way.

No worries, I can be a little confusing on my phone here. I'll blame it on the phone .
I WAS breeding Lav to blue for OE and getting blues and blacks.
NOW the Lavs are in with the black copper Marans.
I didn't think about the chart and just assumed I'd get 100% black OE .
But having some Lav OE would be nice :)

Hi!
I'm trying to sex my 11 week old OE. She is blue, had a single pink comb and is large with large legs and feet. She is scared of her own shadow. She clucks, but hasn't tried to crow. I'm holding out hope that she is a she, but really can't be sure. I'm curious of male blue OE will get brown/reddish feathers in certain areas like many other breeds seem to get. She doesn't have any, so I'm holding out hope. I have some pics posted in the sexing area of the forum, but need to get a recent pic. I will post it here tomorrow. Ty!!

Oh and if she is an actual she, does the single comb mean she may not lay green eggs? The info I'm reading is confusing and I wanted to ask. It seems that she needs to have a pea comb in order to lay green eggs? I'm sorry if this question is dumb. I'm new to all of this with information over load that is jumbling together.
Edited to add a link to her pic thread.

Edited to add that the more I look at her, the more I realize the comb is more of a pea comb than a single comb.

Completely off topic. But wanted to show pics of my OE that are auto sexing that I purchased. No idea on parentage. Any thoughts?

Probably cream legbar for the autosexing? Or any barred/cuckoo hen for sexlinked chicks (like cuckoo Marans) but the single comb says legbar. Or could be Isbar over cuckoo Marans? BTW, if I'm wrong on any of this PLEASE correct me! Still learning...

I have a question and I am sorry if it has been asked before. When making olive eggers does it matter which bird is the blue/green carrier and which is the dark brown? So for example does it matter if I cross a Marans cockerel to an Isbar pullet compared to a Isbar cockerel to a Marans pullet. Is the result the same? If not what is the difference in the results? Also will all of the off spring lay olive eggs if not what percentage of them will? Thank you!

I am not familiar with the Isbar but the answer to that question is no it doesn't really matter. I would prefer to be crossing the Marans or similar dark egg layer over the blue egg layer because they you know you have the blue egg shell gene, you are not gambling on whether or not the stock you received that was supposed to lay blue eggs actually carries the genetics that you cannot see in the rooster.
