The Olive-Egger thread!

Hey everyone!

We recently bred our rumpless araucana roo with our cuckoo maran hen. Our chicks are now a beautiful almost laced pure black iridescent color. They are about 19 weeks now and we can't wait to find out what color they'll lay. Does anyone know what they'll possibly lay? We're hoping olive or green but there isn't too much I can find about that cross.

Thanks for any information!

I would love to see pictures of your birds

Here are some pictures of our pretty girls. I tried to get the best view of their coloring as possible.

we managed to get three hens out of our hatch. Kiwi (who is rumpless and looks like a kiwi bird), Baby who we hatched by hand (and has a half tail), and Crow (who is most of these pictures and had a full tail until it got broken.... and yes she looked like a Crow)

We love them and they have the sweetest temperment. Hopefully they will lay olive/green eggs

Pure araucana(I *think* they only lay blue) over marans should definitely produce an olive layer....
......how dark of an olive will depend on how dark the brown genes from the marans are.

Thanks! We're really hoping for green. The maran lays dark speckled eggs so do you think the new girls may lay olive/green speckled?! We are so excited, we just accidently may have produced OEs!!! And we love them.

I have a order in right now with a hatchery and I am ordering ameraucana and black copper marans. Sooo excited
Know that your 'ameraucana' from a hatchery might not be a pure Ameraucana but a mix called EE's (easter eggers).

But if those birds do lay a true blue egg they may still work for making olive eggers...worked for me.

I'm using my blue egg EE's to try for an olive egger. I've been told that will work.
