The Olive-Egger thread!

Really? I didn't know that, or I wouldn't have even tried it. So far, I have been fortunate. I guess I was also thinking of all the chicks sent through the mail. They don't have feed for a couple days, and usually do fine.

Thanks for the information, and I will keep a close watch on mine. They all seem to be eating fine at this point, and are 5 days old now.

Wynette, the little OE babies are hatching!!

When I came home from work I checked on Lucy and oh, the most precious little peeps were coming from underneath her fluff! I felt at least two, but I didn't want to disturb her too much. I'll update tomorrow with pictures!! Yahoooo!!! thank you!!!

UPDATE: There are at least 3 babies underneath her this morning!! I could only find two intact, unhatched eggs underneath her though, so there may be as many as 5!! Lucy has that new mother glow and is very obviously proud of herself. Soooo cute!!!

They are chunky little ones, strong and healthy!

And then I turned around from admiring the new babies and look! More mamas and babies! Man, I love spring!

All is good! I have 4 little Olive eggers! They are a cross between BCM and Americana! I hope for hens! One left in the incubator! It is day 22. I guess I should leave it for a few more days??

Neeley! OH! That first pic is just PRECIOUS! Momma looking down at baby & baby looking up at Momma! I welled up! (yes, I'm emotional about these guys). The one in your hand already has some muffs - CUTE! Reminds me of one I hatched like that...sort of a steel gray body and a reddish head...let me see if I have a pic...Here it is!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Imagesoart - congrats on your little ones! I always wait until day 23, but if you want to check - pull that last egg out and chip a tiny hole in the air cell end...if it's alive, you'll for sure hear it peeping.

I have two babies that I got from BYC member CPArtist. They're BCM/Ameraucana crosses and I'm in love with them...they are the friendliest little (hopefully!) girls that I have; they will follow me around the yard like I'm their mama and I LOVE IT! I hope they stay like that as they grow up.

I'll have to post some pictures of the cute little feathered leg/muffed cuties.

Beekercat, you know, my olive eggers are the friendliest ones I have. They are also the 2nd best layers I have (after production varieties, which says a lot!) and they lay the largest eggs consistently. What's not to love about them?

Neeley!!!! Congratulations! They are so precious! I love the little one with the rusty head- how CUTE!!!! I hope that last ones hatch out for you. Give your momma hen a treat from me, OK?

Wynette & Beth: Just went by the broody coop and you aren't going to believe this! 5 babies!

That's 5 out of 7 SHIPPED eggs, 70%!! Truly such a testament to your healthy, happy chickens and your INCREDIBLE packing job, Wynette!! I'll try to get pictures of the whole gang tomorrow, they are a total mixed basket of interesting colorings, I LOVE it!! I even saw what I thought (little dark in there and its raining) was a little blue fuzzy butt! Oh, I hope so! This is starting out to be a wonderful weekend, now on to the porch to watch a beautiful thunderstorm and drink an adult beverage or two.

You probably do have a blue. I had a beautiful blue girl from Wynette, but sadly, I lost her to a predator.

ETA: Congrats on the babies!
