The Olive-Egger thread!

Wait, did you mean to say "rarer" or " rather"?
rare
most people are using black copper marans. even know your golden cuckoo does not lay as dark a egg ( well the hens)
you should still get a nice olive egg with a cross to a Ameraucana. you will have a cross fewer people have.
I am breeding a blue ameraucana hen to a crele ( double barred) penedesenca

Are you sure they didn't sell you EE's

Yes, she did sell me an EE, or an OE, in this case, I guess. She raises wheaten/BW Ameraucanas and had purchased new hatching eggs to expand her blood line. They all hatched as normal-looking wheatens, except this weird brown chick, which she assumed was an accidental cross of some kind. She sold it cheap, as a mutt.

And what did the peacomb thing have to do with it?

The pea combed chicks from the cross will be the ones MOST LIKELY to give you olive eggs.

I would not call Cuckoo Marans rare... hatcheries sell them.

Silver Cuckoo and Salmon Marans are rare.

salmon sounds pretty a few pages back they said had anyone used Golden Cuckoo Marans which I think are still rare. So I assumed that is what they had. if not then my bad.

All thing are relative....SOP Marans are rare. In the Middle TN area I know of 5-6 people that have cuckoo on BYC. I see them on CL all the time too. Finding Cuckoos with feathered legs is very hard. I may be the only one in the area with feathered leg Reg Cuckoos.
