The Olive-Egger thread!

I had a hen that laid a "mauve-colored" egg. She was a Welsummer. The egg itself was actually brown, but the blume on her egg that gave it a "plum-colored" appearance. I could never capture the color on camera. She was a hatchery chicken. I got lucky I guess.

I have a wellie/OE that does the same thing, hers is brown but has a pink (I don't know the word for it, hue maybe) color. Hers is also dull in appearance not shiny like the others. Muted pinkish brown? It adds variety to the basket so I like it!

I have 20 eggs under broodies which I hope will produce at least one good OE. But the color possibilities of the others have me excited...maybe I'll get one unusual egg color out of the batch. They are a mix of BCMarans, Cuckoo Marans, Wellies, Wellie/EE, and EErs.

Waiting until June or July for them to lay will be the hard part! :(

I have had a couple of purple eggs pop up every now and then. They have always come from a dark laying hen that had extra bloom on the egg. Will be this way a couple of days when it happens, then back to the normal dark brown egg.

you will hatch sexlinks, gold crele pullets showing salmon breast and golden crele males(the gold will be replace by lemon/straw) the males will hatch chipmunk striped and have a silverish tone to them and the pullets will hatch chipmunk striped with a gold/brown tone to them, the males with hatch with a headspot, females dont
Now once the pullets from this first cross grow and are bred back to a crele what should I expect chicks and adults from the second cross to look like

Anyone have a olive egg with brown spots? Is that possible? I love speckled eggs.

I once had a beige egg with olive spots but the spots only looked olive when wet.

I had a couple WelsummerXEE pullets that laid a light olive with brown spots. I'm thinking they were part of the batch I sold tho, because I haven't had any from the ones I kept yet.

Really? Cool!! That is some of the mix I have under the broodies now.

the brown spot is due to the bown pigment being so stong on those spot as not to allow the natural blue shade under it to look gree.. if you use fine sanding paper all of you Olive eggs will turn blue instead as the brown is a outside layer and the blue inside

The only mauve eggs I've had so far seem to come this way…extra bloom on top of a Marans egg. The closest I've had to pink come from my Orpingtons, I've considered covering them with a blue egg genes cockerel to see if I could produce a 'purple' egg...
