The Olive-Egger thread!

These are my 4 month old olive eggers. They are the result of a silver ameraucana rooster over welsummer hens. The eggs were included as extras when I purchased some pure breed hatching eggs from a local breeder. I ended up with 2 pullets and a cockerel. Both pullets have slate legs and the cockerel has white legs. I am anxious to see what color their eggs will be!

They are very pretty!

Thanks everyone! I really like the silvers. I have a few silver easter eggers that look nearly identical to these guys. The welsummer eggs weren't especially dark so I'm really not sure what to expect from their egg color. The hens were a few years old so I don't know if they were lighter because of that or because they just didn't have the really dark egg genes. They were just a sort of a typical medium brown color... but those eggs were absolutely impossible to candle. They weren't even the darkest eggs in my incubator but they were the hardest to see into.

I have some EE/ buff orpington crosses that lay a very nice green egg. I'm really hoping that these will lay a darker green though. If they do, I might try for some interesting F2 olive eggers. Otherwise, the girls will join my layer flock and the male will probably have a date with either the freezer or craigslist.

Your roo looks like my cookie jar!

Wow look at the combs on those ones!!!

Are those pullets? I wish I could have big combed birds....too cold here tho.

ETA...white earlobes from both sides, yet neither lay white eggs?

Yes, they are pullets. They lay very large egg for their size.

Penedesencas have amazing combs.
