The Olive-Egger thread!

hh This is Livi or Oliver,(not sure which yet) my olive egger. He/she is 14 weeks old, The comb has remained flat. Can anyone tell me if they think she is a hen or is he a rooster? I am also a newbie to this great hobby and can't wait for natures answer. I wll tell you that she does crow which leads me to believe she is a rooster.
I have a rooster that has the same beetle sheen all over but he has a single comb instead. Have you noticed any saddle feathers or shiny feathers in the hackle? I'm suspecting rooster if he crows though.. :)

That red at 14 weeks...and crowing......he's a cockerel.

Thanks so much, I was afraid so. The crow is like scraping your finger on the chalkboard. His daddy is a bc maran so he has feathered legs. His momma an ee. He has a small muff developing but also has small ear tuffs. I have a speckled Sussex, Lola and a black australorp, peka, if I get an ee do I have a chance at green eggs?

Thanks for your info Jennifer! There are no shiny feathers in the hackle, just black and white.

You should ask junebuggena on the rooster or hen thread. She is really good with that kind of comb. I'm not convinced roo just because it's technically a mutt so no way to judge any specific pattern. They say any red before 10 weeks and for sure rooster. If their are no saddle feathers yet could be a hen. With the crowing I would also think rooster just because hens almost never crow. Only under certain circumstances. Definitely ask @junebuggena.

Thank you for solving my mystery. Recently retired and new to this. Have been reading this thread for weeks hoping for a pic that looked like mine.
