The Olive-Egger thread!

Here's a pic I just took of some of the olive eggs and some of the BCM's eggs, from Jesse's flock. They are both really dark but seemed to lighten up in photo. It was taken in full sun.

Those green eggs have lots of "green" to them, like there must have been some good BLUE eggs crossed in there, not weak minty green sky blue. Sorta like peachick's blue eggs. Way to GO!!

I've been following this thread with a lot of excitement. I have 12 wellsummer pullets I'll put with my blue wheaten ameraucana roo this spring. He's going to have a lot of work to do come March! I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Wow, I am about cross eyed reading the posts here. I love it! I raise mine for the colored eggs too and I'm still absorbing all the information. I have what I need for some olive eggers too. I have 3 Cuckoo Maran hens, 2 Americauna hens, a hen that was supposedly Aracauna but she has feathered legs and is rumpless and my rooster is Aracauna so I will be collecting my maran eggs in the spring to hatch.

I saw some amazing, pink eggs here. They almost looked purple pink, wowowow how do you get those?

If you are asking about my eggs as seen in pic on post #110, they all came from hens that came from the same two parents. In other words the one EE paired with a BCM roo produced a number of eggs. I set them all and they hatched. Of the 5, one lays the purple/pink egg and one lays the gray/green egg and two or three lay the dark olive egg. I've yet to pinpoint exactly who lays what.

That is amazing. The colors are all beautiful but the pink ones are stunning. I'm picking up some BCM pullets or hens this week and the cross will be to my Aracauna rooster. I will be keeping all the pullets and I can only hope I get such beautiful eggs. Thank you for sharing that picture.

I have some spare splash ameraucanas, and I was thinking about putting them in with my barred rocks. Since I only have 1 barred rock rooster in that pen, I will clearly know what I'm working with. (true breed vs. crosses)

I have 1 cuckoo patterened EE right now - *accidentally* produced with this rooster over hatchery barred rocks.

I'd like to try using this rooster now, over some spare Ameraucana hens. Does anyone have an opinion on using blue, splash, or blacks for the combo?

Has anyone got to the second generation to see how the eggs do? I mean has anyone breed a nice olive egger hen back to a marans or welsummer to see how much darker the eggs get and what percentage lay olive colored eggs versus brown eggs? Also what percentage of hens lay the olive eggs from the first generation? So many questions!

I have one Oliver egger who is from a Black Ameraucana cockeral and a Black Copper Marans pullet. She isn't laying now but I just put light in the coop so she should start soon. I did get one egg from her and a black ameraucana cockeral the chick is a pretty little guy. I wish I had taken a picture of the eggs. I am going to start a project I have two Great DARK laying Wellsummer hens and Three BCM hens. These girls should start laying again soon. I finally have a cockeral and he is a great quality Black Ameraucana. I was thinking about crossing them would anyone be interested in having some?

Here are the parent birds:
