The Olive-Egger thread!

After I first got into chickens and found out that they lay more than just brown & white eggs, I discovered this thread and saw the OLIVE ones and thought, "Wow, how cool is that?". I had ordered some Americaunas back in August and of course really got EE's of unknown pedigree. Well, to my delight and astonishment, one of them just started laying and I got OLIVE eggs! Skipppeeee! I'm more excited about my green eggs than I was about any Christmas present, LOL!

The OE egg decorations are the ones I sell out of at the craft shows!!! I would love to add a few more ameracaunas into my OE pen-I only have 3 100% pure ones and 3 ( 2nd generation OE hens from ameracaunas and wellies in there now-with 3 EE's that lay shades of green/blue)the craft eggs alone are so fun to make with them!!

Nat...I would like to create an egg layer like yours who lays the "yellowy-green" egg....with speckles (your snowman egg). That one is purty.

that one is the EE!!!! I was so bummed because when I was collecting the OE's for decorating-5 out of 9 hens ( and of course all the ameracaunas) were all in LONG serious moults-all Fall 2+ months-so I didnt get to use very many of the real olive eggs- I was shocked to the EE laying that!

Quick genetics question:

I always thought to get olive eggers you had to put a brown egg (genetically) roo over a green egg laying hen. Can you do it the other way around?

Also I lost my FBCM this winter that gave me my two fabulous OEs. One is the daughter of the older one mated back to her papa and it is such a pretty egg. I have an up and coming EE roo that I was going to get rid of - what would he do to the egg color if I mated him with those two?

I might try to just find another FBCM roo around here. My Tank came from a 7-8 egg color and he made the olive very dark on the two girls I have. Funny thing is they look exactly like FBCM hens but with a beard and wrong comb

What are the two group's temperments? I know my BR is the bossiest, but have never seen my PR peck at anyone. You might be better off in the BO/ RIR pen. Just my two cents, don't have that much experience.
