The Olive-Egger thread!

Ok so i have a white EE hen and a GL polish, a BBR OEGB, a MF duccle, Cuckoo frizzle polish, Black and Partridge silkie, and a BCM roos. What should i breed her to?????

Olive Eggers aren't just some random cross of colored on brown, they're specifically any green/blue layer crossed with any dark red/brpwn layer.

So an EE and a BCM are a perfect cross, or an Ameraucana and a BCM are a perfect cross to create Olive Eggers.

But i really want like cuckoo or BBS olive eggers.

Could i cross the White EE to the Cuckoo frizzle Bantam polsih roo then cross that to a BCM? Would they even be cuckoo?

If you're up for a bit of a drive, I have extras currently & would be happy to save you one. I'm in SE Michigan. I also have a brother that lives in Capron, IL, who works in my area monday through thursday; it's possible I could arrange a meet-up when he drives back home at some point. PM me if interested.

I wouldn't. The polish would lighten the blue which is not what you want when making olive eggers. Patty (onthespot) has barred olive eggers. Not sure how she made them though.

If anyone is near me in Asheboro North Carolina and is interested in a BCM cockerel to make some olive eggers I have one you can have gratis. He is a poor specimen of his breed with too much copper/brown on him but he hatched from a very dark reddish egg, and would be great paired with an Ameraucana hen.
.

mine were made from a barred bearded green laying hen of unknown breeding that had been in a pen with a lot of marans when I bought her. I hatched out the eggs she laid when I got her home, and got my start from there. I used another marans roo, a blue cuckoo one for a short time. I crossed her son back with her, and then took an outcross son from the blue cuckoo roo and crossed that back on the flock. Right now I have a half dozen hens in with two roos, my original son one, and a son from the blue cuckoo roo. They seem to all be getting along well for now. If they end up not getting along, I will cage them and use them in rotation. I like both. I still get single combs occasionally from my flock, and the egg color varies quite a bit. Right now I'm working on type and trying to improve size and meatiness. None are laying right now, so I couldn't send eggs even if I wanted to, but anyhow, you can see a few pics on my site http://pattycarson.com/poultry.html
