The Olive-Egger thread!

I have crossed an OE (ameraucana x marans) back to a very dark egg gened Marans and gotten pullets that lay a brownish egg with a slightly green tint in bright light. It still has the green but also looks brown much deeper than olive.

Well I figured out who was my lone olive egger. Today under the lawn mower Gretchen was sitting on 13 olive eggs. But she isn't broody so the eggs are bad I'm sure. Guess I'll have to lock her up for a bit lol.

She came from a lady in Delano, TN. Sold as an Ameraucana

I got 13 from her last year only 2 pullets. One was blu the other Gretchen. I would buy them again as EE's. I was a little put off because I wanted Ameraucanas and paid for them but ended up with EE's. But I didn't know any better at that time. I still get them mixed up. As long as I know what I have and what I am offering people I'm good lol
Great shades of green/blue and chocolate eggs. This fall I will be in to the egg production. I had more and more people want my eggs so I said why not. I bought 500 new egg cartons to get started. I still need Karen to come npip my flock this summer. Everyone over 4 months gets tested. So I have to wait a couple months if I want everyone tested or Just get the 13 over 4 months tested now. I get to dust off my lablel maker cd lol, if it works with win7.

Woody the BlCM DQ'ed for that crazy tail, no feathered feet and dark eyes. He will be just fine for the EE's
But he has a nice big chest and he will make my EE's offspring bigger and olive eggers.
Gretchen in the middle and Pookey the giant Silver laced cochin. Pookey is the yard candy (kids pet)

Blu mad at me cause I had her in the chicken tractor for 4 days. I just let her out and she ran to the main coop.

. I been collecting for 3 days. I was going to put them under mt BCM who is broody but wont stay on the eggs. She is crazy. She started killing the last batch she hatched. I saved 5 out of 12. I don't have one. Maybe Santa will be nice ;-)

I have my original incubator that is homemade. We just made it work, but if I was going to use it, it needs to be overhauled. Eggs would be fine... make a good trade for a rooster or two? You what me to hatch some for you? My new bator hold 540 eggs and it is SOOOOOO NOT full.... going to quit hatching soon. For just a couple of months. I am running out of places for them to grow out. When all the roos are gone I should be ok. That should take about half of my chicks

I only have a few Olive Eggers right now. I want them all to have puffy cheeks and feathered leg.

Ah wish I'd know I just got rid of 8 EE olive pullets with feathered legs ;-( But a good chance the egg's I'll bring you will make fluffy chicks! I need an incubator. I'm thinking this winter for a project we'll make one. I've seen them made out of old console tv's and old record player chest. My grandma has both just sitting in her basement!
The record player chest also has an 8 track deck

I like the idea of Chick TV the all night peep show

At least it wold look better than the rubbermaid one I have now.

OHHHHHH! I have an old Sanora Victrola type record player. Someone electrified it and it does not work now..... maybe that would make a good incubator...... I will have to check that out. That would be the best chicken TV in the house! I will show you ours if you over look ALL the mess everywhere. We are making flowers for Sunday so they are all over! They are very easy to make. You just have to be patient and not rush the testing part.

A pale olive, I guess. I'd consider it a good green.


To each their own on what an Olive Egger is though. Many people think Easter Eggers would be considered Olive Eggers (since they're brown x blue, or since they lay greener eggs) however to me it needs to be DARK brown x blue, and thus, the offspring have a pretty decent deep olive color.
