Olive Egger Experts..... who would you use and why? The Black or the Blue Copper??

OK I have 2 Olive Egger Roos I am growing up, what do you think.... I will only eventually keep on, but want some opinions on the offspring.

This first one, he LOOK 100% Black Ameraucana EXCEPT the Fabulous feathered legs....better than most of my Marans LOL Great beard and muff too boot. The Blue guy next to him is my second Roo. He looks Marans with copper on his hackles. He has a beard and muff, but not as good and the black. His leg feathering is pretty good too. I think he was one of the Brown Olive Eggers I hatched from my Olive Eggers. He has a twin sister too with a pea comb too.








I would like colorful babies, but I also really want a good beard and muff and feathered legs...... Who would you pick and why?

I don't think I would use Black just because I think All your chicks would be mostly black. I"m thinking the blue will have more colored chicks. Blue is not a true color so it bleeds rather than makes solids. I may be wrong but I will let you know in about 2 weeks ;-) I put a blue copper over my EE's and my Buffy is sitting on 15 green eggs atm. She has 12 first gen green and 3 second gen. Check out this link it shows the % results of color crosses. Kind of cool! They don't have blue copper but I used blue gold close to the same. Good Luck.

Maybe with the few I have growing out and the Eggs I set from you and all mine (about 3 doz Olive Eggers in the bator) I can run 2 roos together

of course 1/2 will be roos and the other 1/2 will not have feathered legs and muffs. Maybe I will keep one in reserve.

Oh... BTW Coppers are duckwing.... I think....not golden though. Illia.... help me there?

yes I picked my chicks up from the lady who was selling eggs on ebay.I am excited to see their progress as they grow up. Few few of the hens (knock on wood I have a few) will go with my Crele Penedesenca breeders

I found the tiniest pale olive egg yesterday. About 3/4 inch very dark lime green. I think I have more OE than I realized.

I have had people comment on the color of my olive eggs and they are just EE eggs and green, not quite the olive I want. Even my 2 olive eggers eggs are starting to look like my green EE's eggs.

I have 10 4 weeks old (today) chicks out of a sq french blk.copper marans over a sq blk ameraucana and a lavender ameraucana. It look slike I have 4 roos and I am wondering, if there is an answer.....what egg color would the roos of this cross pass on? Or is this totally unknowable? Also, is it only the pullets with peacombs that would produce olive eggs? Or it this a given with this cross?

Donna how are those eggs looking @ week 1? The rooster is unproven. Your babies will hatch 1 week before mine ;-P So I guess we will find out what blue copper over EE's look like
