The owner of the feed store says that....

You can ask a hundred people how to build a bridge and get a hundred different answers.....the same with chicken raisers. Take everything with a grain of salt do YOUR research and formulate your own educated opinion. What works for others may not work for you, and vise versa. I agree with most of the post as far as there are different levels of feed for a reason. However that does not make me right. So just take our opinions and go with what is best for you and your chickens.

The bag of feed says 20% protein. The brand is MG, I think it may be locally produced.

Locally produced feed can have different levels but protein rich ingredients are expensive so it's rare to find a high protein layer feed.
Usually soy or field peas are used to up the protein but sunflower meal works too. Fishmeal is use in some parts of the country but for the retail market they like to put 100% vegetarian on the label.

I wanted to add that recent research shows that adding an acidifier to the ration helps protect the kidneys.
If that's true then organic ACV in the water should do the same thing.

Flock raiser or All Flock is designed to be a feed one can feed the entire flock. That is why they make/sell it.

If the objective is ONE FEED for everyone, that feed is All Flock or Flock Raiser (different names for it).

Layer is for layers. Starter is for chicks, etc, but Flock Raiser is for the entire Flock.

Opinions can vary, and it is a polite, open forum, but don't don't confuse politeness or deference to others opinions as everyone being scientifically correct. It remains a fact. Various opinions will not make the moon any closer or farther from the earth than 239,000 miles.

The moon is at an average distance of 238,855 miles (384,400 kilometers) away from Earth. That is about the width of 30 Earths. Because the moon does not orbit Earth in a perfect circle, but instead travels in a slightly elliptical orbit, its distance from Earth varies between 225,700 miles (363,300 kilometers) and 252,000 miles (405,500 kilometers). Just thought this was funny not trying to be mean. lol

I give everyone Flock Raiser and have a grit & calcium bowls always available to them as members of my flock range in ages.
The chicks and their mommas in the broody pens have chick start. Normally the girls don't lay until the chicks are atleast 4 weeks old. Last batch ended up mixed with the main flock by then as momma kept escaping her pen and calling the chicks out. No one messes with the chicks with momma close.

I do agree that it is best to go with flock raiser versus layer if you want one bag of feed for all. Why risk harming the babies?

Did the feed store store guy sell you the chicks?? Maybe he just wants to have more business.... after the little guys kidneys shut down, you can buy some more chicks, and he can sell you the wrong food, and his business is perpetuated...Everyone is in business to make money, some are just more honest than others, or maybe he just doesn't know....We at BYC are all here to help each other. We have all been through it some way or another.
