Aww they look soo tall! So how long has it taken them to finally be unafraid to wander? I didn't free-range much but I would say I free-ranged for two months and it seemed like they never really got unafraid. They ventured a bit further sometimes, well until both of them ran away and the male is still gone. Lol never free-range adult zoo peafowl! I just hated how scared they were...I am glad yours are now exploring and having a good time! Do they ever fly across the yard?

Well i first turned them loose on 11-19-2011 and they have just wandered past the safety zone in the last 3 days so it has taken them a while.
I think they are finely considered as part of the flock of all the birds here and now will wonder with whatever group they find themselves in,which is usually the guinea or goose flock so they are ranging with them farther out.

They don't do alot of flying , just causually strolling threw different areas, yesterday they found the hot wire around the garden, i waited and waited for one of them to touch the pretty shiney wire but they neve did, thank god.

Oh and they love to fly up into the loft of our ol barn, i hope the hens keep loving it and nest up their sure would save alot of egg hunting later on, and it's safe up there.

My guineas follow me around all the time and sometimes they take of flying all around me, pretty cool, i just keep waiting to get hit in the head by one

That sounds cool, I would be worried one would hit me too! When I free ranged the peafowl never seemed to fly up in the barn rafters. I wanted them to but they just liked to run in and out of the barn like crazies!

So you didn't have any aggression problem with your guineas? That's what I worry about, my guineas are buttheads and they love to pick on anyone 'new'. I have a pair of turkeys and a pair of peafowl, all are 9-12 months old. I have never let them out of their building and they don't have a 'run', so they are getting pretty bored. I'm afraid the guineas will bully them, so I haven't yet let them out.

If ya go back and read post 5 it is about the only encounter the peas and guines ever had and now the peas and guineas hang out together.

I free range all my birds together and never have any major problems with guineas and i have over a 100 here.

Oh gosh how do you find them? Finding mine when I used to free-range made me think it would be great if they could have tracking bracelets on them!

Yep a squirrel was in the peafowl pen today eating when Damsel saw it and ran it off. They do enjoy scarring squirrels. In fact the funniest thing I saw with a peafowl and a squirrel was this one time when Alto, my peacock was standing near a bunch of sunflower seeds. A squirrel entered the pen and walked over to the sunflower seeds and started eating them. Alto watched the squirrel and eventually Alto lay down right next to the sunflower seeds. The squirrel was a bit startled but started eating them again and Alto was watching it intently. Then Alto got up and the squirrel ran away a few feet. This time Alto lay down almost fully on top of the sunflower seeds. The squirrel returned and was so unafraid that it got so close that it was touching Alto's neck to get to the sunflowers. Alto didn't like this so he started to peck at the squirrel. The squirrel only jerked when Alto pecked him but that was all. The squirrel kept trying to reach under Alto to get to the seeds and Alto kept pecking him over and over again it was sooo funny! Finally Alto gave him a good peck on the head and the squirrel gave up. That was one unafraid squirrel. I hope the hawk didn't get that one.

I am glad they are having fun and going on adventures. I like the picture with the guineas following them.
