I am fairly new to Polish. I have a roo and a hen, black w/white crest. I have researched and read and read and read.....
I have questions....
Because I have read so much, different opinions everywhere..
As well as will be here. I feel more confident with our group than all the other Google stuff.
Im sure most is true, im sure some isnt....anyway...
I have these questions only from watching and interacting with my 2 polish. I was gifted them, as adults, in July this year.
Questions.....

1.) Are ALL polish on bottom of the pecking order?
*Mine live in their own coop/run, therefore no pecking order.

2.) Does anyone have hens that hatch their own eggs?
*My hen hasnt seemed one single bit interested, even with a very broody silky hen that was in there for a bit.

3.) Are your hens nervous and/or flighty?
*My hen is flighty, almost nervous.

4.) Is it hard to integrate juveniles that are ready to come out of "look, no touch" pens, in to existing coop?
*I havent added my look, no touch pen yet, getting ready to do it soon.
....there is a specific reason for this question..

5.) Are they ALL crazy and escape artists?
*My roo is a master at escape....

6.) Am I crazy?
I fully believe my roo will come to his name, while on escape.... running to me..

1) Don't know. Mine live with ducks. Good question!

2) I don't. I control hatching because I don't want any males at the moment.

3) Mine are not flighty. I spent several weeks nursing them, so they love me - especially Myrtle. Total lap chicken.

4) It can be. Really depends on the individuals in the flock and things like available space, run design, etc. I've not had any real difficulty with planning and careful observation.

5) Not my experience at all. Sounds like you've got quite a character on your hands! Lol

6) He might. He won't go far anyway because he won't leave his hens.

Pictures????!!!!!!?!?!

1) Not in my case! I think it depends one the personality of your flock. I have a lot of easy going breeds and while my meek frizzle Polish rooster is definitely the very bottom, Spider his brother is a huge confident rooster and in the middle of the pack. My pullets also fit right in and we’re near the bottom but not the bottom.

2) I no longer have any females, so I’m not a good one to say but I have read they aren’t very broody. I leave hatching to my silkies and Cochins haha

3) Yes, they can be flighty but I think it’s due to restrictions in their vision as mine were better when I trimmed the feathers around their eyes. I think it’s just instinctual response when you don’t see well 😆

4) Mine were raised by my silkies so they were seamlessly added to the flock over time, but I would make sure they are supervised in the flock for a good amount of time to ensure they aren’t bullied. They have that open skull area and lots of sensitive feathers to yank on!

5) I have not noticed them being especially escape happy so you probably have a character of a rooster 😆 He does have some very impressive wattles!! That has to add to his character!

6) I wouldn’t be surprised! ☺️ Not crazy at all! Hehe

I have three Tolbunt Polish chicks (as well as many other grown Polish hens). These pictures are about 2 weeks old, though, so their crests have grown tons since then. I have one pullet and two cockerels! Cadbury is a pullet and Caramel and Custard are cockerels!

They’re adorable!! I just love Polish with early crest feathers 😍😍 Cadbury has an air of distinction about her 👑 I miss my Tolbunt ladies! 😢

My frizzled Polish JoJo and his non-frizzled brother Spider are the lone survivors from my batch of 6 I hatched in February. They are gentle and beautiful and I wish I had a lady for them to make cute Polish babies!! 😍 While their fragility broke my heart I sure do love the ones we have left ❤️
