The Pet Pigeon Thread

Hi,
I am looking for someone who has been raising pigeons or doves for some time who I can interview on raising them. I want to do an article on why different people keep different types of poultry, but as I have not owned every type of poultry, i need some help.
I've only had pigeons since April, but there are some others on this thread that I believe have had them longer.

I've only had large variety for five years. Hocom Coco has had homers for racers for long time, n recently white dove release. Some old timers on recent trends having had show types of different pigeons for forty fifty etc years recently talking about on topics of disease n breeding.

I'd like to interview you if you don't mind. You don't need expert knowledge just to answer some basic questions.

I've only had large variety for five years, but had all different types (performance, utility, show). It's unique peaceful easy cheap ancient hobby connecting you to something more, especially if raise train fly n breed them, were people connect across cultures continents strict religious political race and gang barriers etc even. Found to be cleaner (depending how keep) quieter more therapeutic calmer gentler than having any other non aquarium pet. Ok.. tried editing in this extra right after other posted, but phone wonky..

Still, I would like to interview you if you want. Please let me know if you would like to.

Hey, I've recently been looking into pigeons.

The thing is, I have tons of hawks all around my house. They are quite literally nesting in a tree over my yard. The crows keep them SOMEWHAT under control from just taking over, but I don't know how safe it'd be to let my birds free fly. I heard that trained homers can evade hawks?

If necessary, I do have a completely enclosed walk-in run for the chickens. Would that be enough to make them happy? I just don't know if they need to free fly or they'd be happy with a run.

Local Craigslist has many, many pigeons for sale as well as many different breeds, so I do have quite a selection. Are there any particular breeds recommended for my situation?

Thanks!
