The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
Thanks! They really are the sweetest girls. A friend was building a big new run for them this weekend, and although they spent the first couple of hours terrified of the noise and up in their coop, they eventually decided that this was all very interesting and possibly for their benefit, came downstairs, and supervised for the rest of the afternoon.
They do look very nice now. They are getting their big girl colors too.

My hens are very interested in what I am doing in the yard. They have learned that digging leads to worms and such. It is so funny to turn over some sod and see several hens scratching in it to get the goodies!

Here are a few pics of my PP girl Daphne. She is like a puppy: underfoot, curious and friendly.

Nice pics Ballerina Bird and tommysgirl! I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up the thread lately. Things have been hectic around here! My very first Pita Pinta broody hatched 3 Pita PInta babies this past week. They are so cute! Another one of my PP pullets was broody but freaked out when I moved her w/eggs to a dog kennel on day 18. The eggs were stone cold and she ran from the kennel when I opened the door. She didn't come back and also didn't go back to the nest box where she had been sitting on the eggs. I guess I broke her of broodiness right when I didn't want to. I candled the eggs and there was no movement but I went ahead and stuck them under another mixed breed broody pullet who was sitting tight with or without an egg. I moved her to the dog kennel and she stayed on the eggs. 2 hatched yesterday and the 3rd is peeping and pipped today. Here are pics of Vivaz and her 3 babies.

I agree! Vivaz is one of my white legged girls. You can see that her beak is also whitish instead of the desired yellow. I was planning on finding layer flock homes for them but if she ends up being a good mommy, I might have to keep her. Of course, the 2 friendliest Pita Pinta pullets both have white legs. And my pullet with the most white feathers has blue eyes. I'll try to get a photo of her this week.

This past season, I hatched around 100 Pita Pinta chicks. The youngest ones that I have, besides the 6 broody hatched ones, are 9 weeks old. I have had several unwanted things crop up. I currently have around 6 POL pullets who have white legs and white beaks instead of yellow and yellow. I have another pullet who has blue eyes but she does have yellow legs & beak plus the most white of any of the pullets. I have also had 5 or 6 cockerels mature and show brass coloring in their hackle feathers. One even had brown patches on his wings. The off color legs and beaks did not show up for several weeks and the brassy color on the cockerels didn't show up until sexual maturity. If any of you who are breeding these wonderful birds have anything abnormal like this show up, please let the rest of us know.
