The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
I was able to get a picture of the molting hen.

Poor thing!

This is a picture of all four of them.

This is also very helpful -- I just noticed today that Odile looks a lot like your hen in the foreground of the second pic -- a few feathers missing from her back, or maybe an under layer showing a bit? Last winter I remember seeing someone on BYC made "molt muffins" -- anyone know what these are?

Your poor girl in full-on molt! Hope it is not too uncomfortable. But it helps a lot to see what it looks like; thanks for posting.

Are these girls all the same hatch as Odette and Odile? They are very lovely.

The two in front are from the same hatch. The other two are the mothers and are a year older.

The first molt can be quite shocking, especially with all the feathers!

I now know why I was having trouble figuring out gender for one of my hatches of Pita Pinta chicks--because they are all pullets!

I love it when that happens. The one that was most likely a rooster laid her first egg today....

I will get a picture later.

Here is a pic of my favorite Pita Pinta chick this year. Her name is Patio because, up until this week, she has been able to squeeze through the hog panels surrounding our patio and spent most of her day by herself in her own private area. She would look through the patio door and wait patiently for me to bring her blueberries. Now she is too plump to fit through the openings.

How adorable!!
Thank you! She is a tiny thing so not going to be a top choice for breeding but she has earned herself a place in my layer flock.

I've been bad about getting photos of my birds so took a few yesterday. It can hard to get pics of them because they are right up in my face as soon as I get down on their level. I have lots of pullets and cockerels available if anyone in N CA is interested!
