It is a cockerel, he has his words strung together

it should read: another white cockerel, the pullets I posted are sisters. Is what I got from deduction, right Ken?

Jeff
I have a hard time reading words all bundled up like that. I saw pullet and thought that's what he meant. Thanks for clarifying :)

Good morning folks.

While down in KY last week, I also looked over the pullets from this year's hatches again. I'd seen them as little 8 week pullets but now it was time to judge them. At 30 weeks, I am confident in judging pullets.

Unfortunately, it was flat out pouring rain for most of the 4 days, so I got no photos of the XW/GSBR pullets. Bummed about that, because I saw, handled and banded pullets that would bring tears to your eyes. I honestly judged 6 or 7 pullets to be 94 or 95 pointers, under the old system. The boys down there are all set moving forward with that line. They'll have all the breeders they'll need while the culls will be put in the table egg layers pen.

We homestead with these birds. The Barred Rocks lay eggs and a good amount of them. The males are good eating, as Frank Reese intended them to be. The girls cooked up a big old pot of chicken gumbo and it was out of this world. Real chicken.

If someone was to want to buy one of your culls would you consider it?

May be culls to us, but some people would be thrilled to have one of them I'm sure.

I do sell a few birds here, aoxa. There is an ebb and flow, here at my place and I sell maybe 20 birds a year. However, down in KY, cull birds are either used in the layer flock or used as food. Suffice it to say, there are something like 16 children involved. Lots of little human mouths to feed. hahahaha. The flocks down there are also much, much larger than what I keep here.

They do sell a lot of fertile hatching eggs in spring, however. They know how to pack them correctly.

I was intending the question towards your cock birds. :)

I don't process laying hens if they are useful for eating eggs. Someone will find use out of them if I don't.

Yes, the guys will sell some cockerels. Absolutely. They have and will. They delight in helping other folks get better blood into their flocks. Shipping costs on a couple of 20 week cockerels is insane, however.

I've got a little cockerel here that is 7 weeks. He'd be available to anyone, for example.

your right catdaddy sorry my words run together. my space bar doesn't work at my house. Fred I thought the same thing about the light on that pullet . i took tgese on the day bob passed away. i had talked to him early that day and told him i was gonna post some pics of the ones i liked to keep as breeders.
Ken, I believe it was I who stated the pullet in the light looked angelic....wow, so you did take these on the day Bob passed...I'm sure you were saddened that he did not get to see the fruits of both your and his labor...looks like you have chosen your breeders well (-; Would you mind if I post that angel pullet photo on Bob's and Zora's Facebook page as a memorial tribute??
Just a thought.

You gotta know that Cindy is going to see angelic light rays, not me.

Here that same batch of F1 chicks today. Can you still spot the pullets I had marked earlier? hahaha This is what I saw last weekend.
There's 5 pullets in this batch, I believe. Which would you pick? If any, if you were going to continue this program.

Let's talk real life here. You step into a pen of dancing juveniles. It's a blur of movement, with brighter males and darker females. The camo effect of barring, the light of bright sun and dark shadows of shade. You've not got all day to make your decisions. You've got to stand, study and then choose. Sound like fun? LOL
